Tafsir de la sourate As-Saffat
As-Saffat 37:1
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفّٗا
Par les anges parfaitement alignés !
By those [angels] lined up in rows
As-Saffat 37:2
فَٱلزَّـٰجِرَٰتِ زَجۡرٗا
Par les anges chargés de pousser !
And those who drive [the clouds]
As-Saffat 37:3
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَٰتِ ذِكۡرًا
Par les anges qui ne cessent de réciter !
And those who recite the message
As-Saffat 37:4
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمۡ لَوَٰحِدٞ
Votre Dieu est unique, à n’en point douter,
Indeed, your God is One
As-Saffat 37:5
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِ
Seigneur des cieux, de la terre et de ce qui se trouve entre eux, et Seigneur des orients.
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises
As-Saffat 37:6
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ
Nous avons, en vérité, paré le ciel le plus proche d’étoiles,
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
As-Saffat 37:7
وَحِفۡظٗا مِّن كُلِّ شَيۡطَٰنٖ مَّارِدٖ
par lesquelles Nous le protégeons des démons rebelles
And as protection against every rebellious devil
As-Saffat 37:8
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَيُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٖ
qui sont, par des projectiles lancés contre eux de tous côtés, empêchés d’écouter les anges dans le ciel,
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side
As-Saffat 37:9
دُحُورٗاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ وَاصِبٌ
éloignés, puis voués à un châtiment éternel.
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment
As-Saffat 37:10
إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٞ ثَاقِبٞ
Certains parviennent néanmoins à saisir furtivement quelques mots, mais sont aussitôt atteints par un météore perçant.
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]
As-Saffat 37:11
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَآۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰهُم مِّن طِينٖ لَّازِبِۭ
Demande-leur s’il est plus difficile de les créer eux, que Nous avons créés d’argile visqueuse, ou tout ce que Nous avons créé en dehors d’eux ?
Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay
As-Saffat 37:12
بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَيَسۡخَرُونَ
Tu t’étonnes, tandis qu’eux te tournent en dérision,
But you wonder, while they mock
As-Saffat 37:13
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُواْ لَا يَذۡكُرُونَ
totalement indifférents à tes exhortations,
And when they are reminded, they remember not
As-Saffat 37:14
وَإِذَا رَأَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ
se moquant des miracles produits sous leurs yeux.
And when they see a sign, they ridicule
As-Saffat 37:15
وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ مُّبِينٌ
Ils disent : « Ce n’est là, de toute évidence, que pure magie !
And say, "This is not but obvious magic
As-Saffat 37:16
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ
Serons-nous, une fois morts et nos os réduits en poussière, ressuscités,
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected
As-Saffat 37:17
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
ainsi que nos ancêtres les plus éloignés ? »
And our forefathers [as well]
As-Saffat 37:18
قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَٰخِرُونَ
Réponds : « Oui, et vous connaîtrez alors la plus cruelle des humiliations. »
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible
As-Saffat 37:19
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجۡرَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ فَإِذَا هُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ
Il suffira d’un seul Cri, et voilà qu’ils se mettront à regarder avec attention.
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing
As-Saffat 37:20
وَقَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ
Ils diront : « Malheur à nous, voici le Jour de la rétribution ! »
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense
As-Saffat 37:21
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Il leur sera dit : « Voici, en effet, le Jour du jugement que vous traitiez de mensonge. »
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny
As-Saffat 37:22
۞ٱحۡشُرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَأَزۡوَٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ
Il sera ordonné : « Que les impies et leurs semblables soient rassemblés, ainsi que tout ce qu’ils adoraient
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
As-Saffat 37:23
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
en dehors d’Allah. Qu’ils soient dirigés vers le Brasier !
Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
As-Saffat 37:24
وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡـُٔولُونَ
Mais arrêtez-les, car ils doivent tout d’abord être interrogés. »
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned
As-Saffat 37:25
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
Il leur sera alors demandé : « Qu’avez-vous à ne pas vous entraider ? »
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other
As-Saffat 37:26
بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ
Mais ce Jour-là, ils se soumettront avec résignation.
But they, that Day, are in surrender
As-Saffat 37:27
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
Les uns se tourneront vers les autres et les blâmeront.
And they will approach one another blaming each other
As-Saffat 37:28
قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Les faibles diront aux puissants : « Vous nous avez détournés de la bonne voie. »
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right
As-Saffat 37:29
قَالُواْ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ
Les puissants rétorqueront : « C’est vous, au contraire, qui avez rejeté la foi.
The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers
As-Saffat 37:30
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَٰنِۭۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا طَٰغِينَ
Nous n’avions d’ailleurs sur vous aucune autorité. Vous étiez vous-mêmes dévoyés.
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people
As-Saffat 37:31
فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَآۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ
L’arrêt de notre Seigneur a été prononcé contre nous : nous allons tous goûter le châtiment.
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]
As-Saffat 37:32
فَأَغۡوَيۡنَٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَٰوِينَ
Oui, nous vous avons égarés, car nous étions nous-mêmes dans l’égarement. »
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators
As-Saffat 37:33
فَإِنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ
Ce Jour-là, ils seront tous associés dans les tourments.
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment
As-Saffat 37:34
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
C’est bien de cette manière que Nous traiterons les mécréants.
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals
As-Saffat 37:35
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوٓاْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ
Lorsqu’il leur était dit qu’Allah seul est en droit d’être adoré, ils affichaient une fierté démesurée,
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
As-Saffat 37:36
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٖ مَّجۡنُونِۭ
disant : « Allons-nous renoncer à nos divinités sur la parole d’un poète possédé ? »
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet
As-Saffat 37:37
بَلۡ جَآءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Il est au contraire venu apporter la vérité et confirmer la mission des Messagers.
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers
As-Saffat 37:38
إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَآئِقُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِيمِ
Vous allez assurément goûter un douloureux châtiment,
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment
As-Saffat 37:39
وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
mais ne serez rétribués que pour prix de vos agissements.
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do
As-Saffat 37:40
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Quant aux fidèles serviteurs d’Allah qu’Il a élus,
But not the chosen servants of Allah
As-Saffat 37:41
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ
ils obtiendront une récompense bien connue,
Those will have a provision determined
As-Saffat 37:42
فَوَٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ
des fruits variés, et jouiront de tous les honneurs
Fruits; and they will be honored
As-Saffat 37:43
فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
au milieu des jardins des délices,
In gardens of pleasure
As-Saffat 37:44
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ
se faisant face sur des lits somptueux.
On thrones facing one another
As-Saffat 37:45
يُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِم بِكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينِۭ
On fera circuler parmi eux des coupes remplies à une source intarissable
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring
As-Saffat 37:46
بَيۡضَآءَ لَذَّةٖ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
de vin blanc au goût exquis et agréable
White and delicious to the drinkers
As-Saffat 37:47
لَا فِيهَا غَوۡلٞ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا يُنزَفُونَ
qui ne provoquera ni maux de tête, ni ivresse.
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated
As-Saffat 37:48
وَعِندَهُمۡ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِينٞ
Ils jouiront de la compagnie de femmes au regard chaste et aux yeux de toute beauté,
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes
As-Saffat 37:49
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيۡضٞ مَّكۡنُونٞ
dont la peau sera d’une blancheur immaculée.
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected
As-Saffat 37:50
فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
Se tournant les uns vers les autres, ils s’interrogeront.
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other
As-Saffat 37:51
قَالَ قَآئِلٞ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٞ
L’un d’eux dira : « J’avais un compagnon
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
As-Saffat 37:52
يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِينَ
qui me demandait : “Es-tu vraiment de ceux qui croient que,
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
As-Saffat 37:53
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ
une fois morts et nos os réduits en poussière, nous serons ressuscités pour être jugés ?” »
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed
As-Saffat 37:54
قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ
Il ajoutera : « Voulez-vous regarder ? »
He will say, "Would you [care to] look
As-Saffat 37:55
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِي سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
Regardant lui-même, il apercevra au milieu du Brasier son compagnon
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire
As-Saffat 37:56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِينِ
qu’il blâmera en ces termes : « Par Allah ! Tu as bien failli me perdre !
He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me
As-Saffat 37:57
وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِينَ
Sans la grâce de mon Seigneur, j’aurais moi aussi été livré au châtiment. »
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]
As-Saffat 37:58
أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ
« Est-il vrai que nous ne connaîtrons pas d’autre mort
Then, are we not to die
As-Saffat 37:59
إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
que notre première mort et que nous ne serons pas châtiés ?
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished
As-Saffat 37:60
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Voilà assurément le bonheur suprême. »
Indeed, this is the great attainment
As-Saffat 37:61
لِمِثۡلِ هَٰذَا فَلۡيَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَٰمِلُونَ
Que ceux qui aspirent à une telle félicité se mettent à l’œuvre.
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work
As-Saffat 37:62
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيۡرٞ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
Est-il préférable d’être accueilli par ces délices ou par l’arbre Zaqqoum
Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum
As-Saffat 37:63
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰهَا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
dont Nous avons fait une épreuve pour les impies ?
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers
As-Saffat 37:64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٞ تَخۡرُجُ فِيٓ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
C’est un arbre qui prend racine au fond de la Fournaise
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire
As-Saffat 37:65
طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ
et dont les fruits ont l’apparence hideuse de têtes de démons.
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils
As-Saffat 37:66
فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَأٓكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ
Ils en mangeront, en vérité, à s’en remplir la panse,
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies
As-Saffat 37:67
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا لَشَوۡبٗا مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ
puis boiront par-dessus une eau portée à ébullition,
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water
As-Saffat 37:68
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
avant de retrouver les tourments du Brasier.
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire
As-Saffat 37:69
إِنَّهُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡاْ ءَابَآءَهُمۡ ضَآلِّينَ
Ils ont en effet trouvé leurs ancêtres égarés
Indeed they found their fathers astray
As-Saffat 37:70
فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِمۡ يُهۡرَعُونَ
et se sont alors empressés de les imiter.
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps
As-Saffat 37:71
وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
La plupart des peuples se sont avant eux égarés.
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples
As-Saffat 37:72
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ
Pourtant Nous leur avions envoyé des Messagers.
And We had already sent among them warners
As-Saffat 37:73
فَٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ
Médite donc le sort de ces peuples qui avaient en vain été avertis,
Then look how was the end of those who were warned
As-Saffat 37:74
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
auquel ont échappé les serviteurs d’Allah élus pour leur sincérité.
But not the chosen servants of Allah
As-Saffat 37:75
وَلَقَدۡ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٞ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِيبُونَ
Noé Nous a ainsi imploré et Nous l’avons si bien exaucé,
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders
As-Saffat 37:76
وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
le délivrant, lui et les siens, de la détresse qui les submergeait.
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction
As-Saffat 37:77
وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ
Nous avons fait de ses descendants les seuls survivants
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
As-Saffat 37:78
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
et fait en sorte que ses vertus passent à la postérité.
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
As-Saffat 37:79
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٖ فِي ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Les mérites de Noé seront donc, dans les nations, à jamais salués.
Peace upon Noah among the worlds
As-Saffat 37:80
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
C’est ainsi que Nous récompensons les hommes de bien.
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
As-Saffat 37:81
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Il fut l’un de Nos fidèles serviteurs.
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
As-Saffat 37:82
ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ
Nous avons ensuite englouti les impies.
Then We drowned the disbelievers
As-Saffat 37:83
۞وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
Abraham fut de ceux qui suivirent la même voie que Noé,
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham
As-Saffat 37:84
إِذۡ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلۡبٖ سَلِيمٍ
lorsque, s’étant tourné vers son Seigneur le cœur pur de toute impiété,
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
As-Saffat 37:85
إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ
il dit à son père et à son peuple : « Qu’est-ce que vous adorez ?
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship
As-Saffat 37:86
أَئِفۡكًا ءَالِهَةٗ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
Avez-vous choisi de vénérer, en dehors d’Allah, de fausses divinités ?
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire
As-Saffat 37:87
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Quel sort, selon vous, le Seigneur de la Création peut-Il vous réserver ? »
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds
As-Saffat 37:88
فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةٗ فِي ٱلنُّجُومِ
Puis, regardant les étoiles,
And he cast a look at the stars
As-Saffat 37:89
فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٞ
il dit : « Je suis malade. »
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill
As-Saffat 37:90
فَتَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِينَ
Lorsqu’ils eurent tourné le dos à Abraham,
So they turned away from him, departing
As-Saffat 37:91
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
celui-ci se dirigea discrètement vers leurs divinités auxquelles il lança : « Ne mangez-vous pas ?
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat
As-Saffat 37:92
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
Qu’avez-vous donc à ne pas répondre ? »
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak
As-Saffat 37:93
فَرَاغَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡيَمِينِ
Il se mit alors à les frapper de la main droite,
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand
As-Saffat 37:94
فَأَقۡبَلُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِ يَزِفُّونَ
tandis que les idolâtres revenaient vers lui en toute hâte.
Then the people came toward him, hastening
As-Saffat 37:95
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ
Il leur dit : « Adorez-vous des idoles que vous-mêmes avez sculptées,
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve
As-Saffat 37:96
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ
alors que c’est Allah qui vous a créés, vous et ce que vous façonnez ? »
While Allah created you and that which you do
As-Saffat 37:97
قَالُواْ ٱبۡنُواْ لَهُۥ بُنۡيَٰنٗا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِي ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
Ils dirent : « Qu’un bûcher soit dressé et qu’il soit jeté dans le brasier ! »
They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire
As-Saffat 37:98
فَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيۡدٗا فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِينَ
Ils voulurent lui nuire, mais ce sont eux que Nous avons humiliés.
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased
As-Saffat 37:99
وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهۡدِينِ
Il dit : « Je quitte cette terre par obéissance à mon Seigneur qui guidera mes pas.
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me
As-Saffat 37:100
رَبِّ هَبۡ لِي مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
Seigneur ! Fais-moi don d’un enfant vertueux. »
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous
As-Saffat 37:101
فَبَشَّرۡنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمٖ
Nous lui avons alors annoncé la naissance d’un garçon magnanime.
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy
As-Saffat 37:102
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡيَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَيَّ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰ فِي ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّيٓ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِيٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
Lorsque l’enfant fut en âge de l’accompagner, il lui dit : « Mon fils ! Je me suis vu en rêve en train de t’immoler. Qu’en penses-tu ? » L’enfant répondit : « Père ! Exécute l’ordre qui t’est donné, tu me trouveras, par la volonté d’Allah, patient dans l’épreuve. »
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast
As-Saffat 37:103
فَلَمَّآ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِينِ
Lorsque tous deux se furent pliés à la volonté d’Allah et qu’Abraham eut allongé son fils, plaçant sa tempe contre le sol,
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead
As-Saffat 37:104
وَنَٰدَيۡنَٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ
Nous l’appelâmes : « Abraham !
We called to him, "O Abraham
As-Saffat 37:105
قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡيَآۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
Tu as accompli ta vision en laquelle tu as cru. » C’est ainsi que Nous récompensons les hommes de bien.
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
As-Saffat 37:106
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰٓؤُاْ ٱلۡمُبِينُ
Ce fut là une épreuve probante.
Indeed, this was the clear trial
As-Saffat 37:107
وَفَدَيۡنَٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِيمٖ
Nous avons racheté son enfant par une sublime offrande
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice
As-Saffat 37:108
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
et fait en sorte que ses vertus passent à la postérité.
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
As-Saffat 37:109
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
Les mérites d’Abraham seront donc à jamais salués.
Peace upon Abraham
As-Saffat 37:110
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
C’est ainsi que Nous récompensons les hommes de bien.
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
As-Saffat 37:111
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Il fut l’un de Nos fidèles serviteurs.
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
As-Saffat 37:112
وَبَشَّرۡنَٰهُ بِإِسۡحَٰقَ نَبِيّٗا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
Nous lui avons également annoncé la naissance d’Isaac, prophète et serviteur vertueux,
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous
As-Saffat 37:113
وَبَٰرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسۡحَٰقَۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنٞ وَظَالِمٞ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِينٞ
et l’avons béni, ainsi qu’Isaac. Certains de leurs descendants sont obéissants, tandis que d’autres s’opposent manifestement à Nos commandements.
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself
As-Saffat 37:114
وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ
Nous avons, de la même manière, comblé de Nos faveurs Moïse et Aaron
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron
As-Saffat 37:115
وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
que Nous avons délivrés, ainsi que leur peuple, de la détresse qui les accablait.
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction
As-Saffat 37:116
وَنَصَرۡنَٰهُمۡ فَكَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ
Nous les avons assistés et fait triompher de leurs ennemis
And We supported them so it was they who overcame
As-Saffat 37:117
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِينَ
et leur avons confié les Ecritures aux lois parfaitement claires.
And We gave them the explicit Scripture
As-Saffat 37:118
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ
Nous leur avons indiqué le droit chemin et la voie du salut
And We guided them on the straight path
As-Saffat 37:119
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
et avons fait en sorte que leurs vertus passent à la postérité.
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations
As-Saffat 37:120
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ
Les mérites de Moïse et Aaron seront donc à jamais salués.
Peace upon Moses and Aaron
As-Saffat 37:121
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
C’est ainsi que Nous récompensons les hommes de bien.
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
As-Saffat 37:122
إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Tous deux furent du nombre de Nos fidèles serviteurs.
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants
As-Saffat 37:123
وَإِنَّ إِلۡيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Elie fut également du nombre des Messagers.
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers
As-Saffat 37:124
إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Il dit à son peuple : « Ne craignez-vous pas Allah ?
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah
As-Saffat 37:125
أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلٗا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَٰلِقِينَ
Adorez-vous Baal plutôt que le Créateur par excellence,
Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators
As-Saffat 37:126
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
Allah, votre Seigneur et Celui de vos ancêtres les plus éloignés ? »
Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers
As-Saffat 37:127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ
Pour l’avoir traité d’imposteur, ils seront livrés au châtiment
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment]
As-Saffat 37:128
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
auquel échapperont les serviteurs d’Allah élus pour leur sincérité.
Except the chosen servants of Allah
As-Saffat 37:129
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
Nous avons fait en sorte que ses vertus passent à la postérité.
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
As-Saffat 37:130
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلۡ يَاسِينَ
Les mérites d’Elie seront donc à jamais salués.
Peace upon Elias
As-Saffat 37:131
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
C’est ainsi que Nous récompensons les hommes de bien.
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
As-Saffat 37:132
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Il fut l’un de Nos fidèles serviteurs.
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
As-Saffat 37:133
وَإِنَّ لُوطٗا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Loth fut également l’un de Nos Messagers.
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers
As-Saffat 37:134
إِذۡ نَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥٓ أَجۡمَعِينَ
Nous l’avons sauvé, lui et l’ensemble de sa famille,
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all
As-Saffat 37:135
إِلَّا عَجُوزٗا فِي ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ
excepté une vieille femme, vouée avec les autres à être exterminée.
Except his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers]
As-Saffat 37:136
ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ
Nous avons ensuite anéanti les impies.
Then We destroyed the others
As-Saffat 37:137
وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيۡهِم مُّصۡبِحِينَ
Vous passez d’ailleurs à proximité de leurs vestiges de jour
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
As-Saffat 37:138
وَبِٱلَّيۡلِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ
comme de nuit. Etes-vous donc dépourvus de toute raison ?
And at night. Then will you not use reason
As-Saffat 37:139
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Jonas fut également du nombre des Messagers.
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers
As-Saffat 37:140
إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ
Ayant fui, il embarqua dans un vaisseau surchargé.
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship
As-Saffat 37:141
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِينَ
Mais le tirage au sort le désigna pour être sacrifié.
And he drew lots and was among the losers
As-Saffat 37:142
فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٞ
Le poisson l’avala pour son attitude en droit d’être blâmée.
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy
As-Saffat 37:143
فَلَوۡلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِينَ
S’il n’avait pas été de ceux qui célèbrent la gloire d’Allah et Sa sainteté,
And had he not been of those who exalt Allah
As-Saffat 37:144
لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطۡنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ
il serait certainement resté dans le ventre du poisson jusqu’au Jour où les hommes seront ressuscités.
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected
As-Saffat 37:145
۞فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٞ
Mais il fut, par Notre ordre, rejeté sans forces sur une terre vierge.
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill
As-Saffat 37:146
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ شَجَرَةٗ مِّن يَقۡطِينٖ
Nous avons alors fait pousser au-dessus de lui un plant de courge,
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine
As-Saffat 37:147
وَأَرۡسَلۡنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِاْئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ يَزِيدُونَ
et l’avons envoyé en Messager à cent mille âmes, voire davantage,
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more
As-Saffat 37:148
فَـَٔامَنُواْ فَمَتَّعۡنَٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ
qui tous crurent en lui, si bien que Nous les avons laissés jouir quelque temps de cette vie.
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time
As-Saffat 37:149
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ
Demande-leur comment ils peuvent attribuer des filles à ton Seigneur, tout en désirant eux-mêmes des garçons ?
So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons
As-Saffat 37:150
أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَٰثٗا وَهُمۡ شَٰهِدُونَ
Aurions-Nous créé les anges en leur présence pour qu’ils puissent affirmer qu’ils sont de sexe féminin ?
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses
As-Saffat 37:151
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَيَقُولُونَ
Voilà un mensonge de leur part que d’affirmer
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say
As-Saffat 37:152
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
qu’Allah a engendré, voilà une pure invention.
Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars
As-Saffat 37:153
أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِينَ
Aurait-Il choisi des filles plutôt que des garçons ?
Has He chosen daughters over sons
As-Saffat 37:154
مَا لَكُمۡ كَيۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ
Qu’avez-vous donc à juger de cette façon ?
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement
As-Saffat 37:155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Etes-vous dépourvus de toute raison ?
Then will you not be reminded
As-Saffat 37:156
أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَٰنٞ مُّبِينٞ
A moins que vous ne déteniez des preuves irréfutables de ce que vous avancez ?
Or do you have a clear authority
As-Saffat 37:157
فَأۡتُواْ بِكِتَٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
Apportez donc le livre qui vous aurait été révélé à ce sujet, si vous dites la vérité.
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful
As-Saffat 37:158
وَجَعَلُواْ بَيۡنَهُۥ وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبٗاۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ
Ils ont établi entre Lui et les djinns des liens. Or, les djinns savent bien qu’ils seront amenés à comparaître devant Lui.
And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]
As-Saffat 37:159
سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Gloire donc à Allah que leurs blasphèmes ne peuvent atteindre.
Exalted is Allah above what they describe
As-Saffat 37:160
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Blasphèmes que les croyants sincères ne sauraient prononcer.
Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]
As-Saffat 37:161
فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ
Car vous et ce que vous adorez
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship
As-Saffat 37:162
مَآ أَنتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ بِفَٰتِنِينَ
ne sauriez, en vérité, dévoyer
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
As-Saffat 37:163
إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
que celui qui est voué au Brasier.
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire
As-Saffat 37:164
وَمَامِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ
« Il n’est pas un seul d’entre nous qui n’occupe une place déterminée.
[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position
As-Saffat 37:165
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ
Nous sommes ceux qui, étant parfaitement alignés,
And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]
As-Saffat 37:166
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ
célébrons sans cesse la gloire d’Allah et Sa sainteté. »
And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah
As-Saffat 37:167
وَإِن كَانُواْ لَيَقُولُونَ
Les mécréants ne cessaient d’affirmer :
And indeed, the disbelievers used to say
As-Saffat 37:168
لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
« Si seulement nous possédions des Ecritures comme nos devanciers,
If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples
As-Saffat 37:169
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
nous serions les serviteurs d’Allah les plus dévoués ! »
We would have been the chosen servants of Allah
As-Saffat 37:170
فَكَفَرُواْ بِهِۦۖ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ
Mais voici qu’ils renient le Coran. Ils connaîtront un jour la vérité !
But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know
As-Saffat 37:171
وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Notre arrêt a déjà été prononcé en faveur de Nos serviteurs, les Messagers :
And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers
As-Saffat 37:172
إِنَّهُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ
ce sont eux, sans aucun doute, qui devront triompher,
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
As-Saffat 37:173
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ
et la victoire est assurément acquise à Nos armées.
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome
As-Saffat 37:174
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ
Détourne-toi donc de ces gens quelque temps.
So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time
As-Saffat 37:175
وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ
Observe-les, ils verront bientôt ce qui les attend !
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see
As-Saffat 37:176
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ
Veulent-ils à ce point hâter Notre châtiment ?
Then for Our punishment are they impatient
As-Saffat 37:177
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمۡ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ
Lorsque celui-ci s’abattra sur eux, ceux qui ont été vainement avertis passeront pourtant un bien mauvais moment.
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned
As-Saffat 37:178
وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ
Détourne-toi donc de ces gens quelque temps.
And leave them for a time
As-Saffat 37:179
وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ
Et observe, ils verront bientôt ce qui les attend !
And see, for they are going to see
As-Saffat 37:180
سُبۡحَٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Gloire à ton Seigneur Tout-Puissant que leurs blasphèmes ne sauraient atteindre !
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe
As-Saffat 37:181
وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Que les mérites des Messagers soient à jamais salués !
And peace upon the messengers
As-Saffat 37:182
وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Et qu’Allah, Seigneur de la Création, soit à jamais loué !
And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds
