Waarlijk, Wij hebben hen beproefd zoals Wij de mensen van de tuin beproefd hebben wanneer zij zwoeren de vruchten van de (tuin) in de ochtend te plukken.

Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning

Al-Qalam 68:18

وَلَا يَسۡتَثۡنُونَ

Zonder: “Insha’ Allah” (als Allah het wil) te zeggen.

Without making exception

Al-Qalam 68:19

فَطَافَ عَلَيۡهَا طَآئِفٞ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمۡ نَآئِمُونَ

Toen kwam er iets langs (de tuin) van jullie Heer in de nacht en verbrandde het terwijl zij sliepen.

So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep

Al-Qalam 68:20

فَأَصۡبَحَتۡ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ

Zo werd de (tuin) zwart in de ochtend, zoals een pikdonkere nacht.

And it became as though reaped

Al-Qalam 68:21

فَتَنَادَوۡاْ مُصۡبِحِينَ

Toen riepen zij elkaar toen de ochtend aanbrak.

And they called one another at morning

Al-Qalam 68:22

أَنِ ٱغۡدُواْ عَلَىٰ حَرۡثِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰرِمِينَ

Zeggende: “Ga naar je akker in de ochtend, zodat je het fruit kan plukken.”

[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit

Al-Qalam 68:23

فَٱنطَلَقُواْ وَهُمۡ يَتَخَٰفَتُونَ

Dus gingen zij op weg, op zachte geheime toon met elkaar sprekend (zeggende):

So they set out, while lowering their voices

Al-Qalam 68:24

أَن لَّا يَدۡخُلَنَّهَا ٱلۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّسۡكِينٞ

“Geen arme zal tot jullie komen tot vandaag”

[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person

Al-Qalam 68:25

وَغَدَوۡاْ عَلَىٰ حَرۡدٖ قَٰدِرِينَ

En toen zij vastbesloten in de ochtend op weg gingen, denkend dat zij de macht hadden.

And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able

Al-Qalam 68:26

فَلَمَّا رَأَوۡهَا قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ

Maar zodra zij (de tuin) zagen, zeiden zij: “Waarlijk, wij zijn afgedwaald.”

But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost

Al-Qalam 68:27

بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ

“Nee! Voorwaar wij zijn afgesneden van het goede (door onze onrecht)."

Rather, we have been deprived

Al-Qalam 68:28

قَالَ أَوۡسَطُهُمۡ أَلَمۡ أَقُل لَّكُمۡ لَوۡلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ

Eén onder hen zei: “Heb ik jullie niet gezegd, waarom zeggen jullie niet: als Allah het wil.”

The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allah]

Al-Qalam 68:29

قَالُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

Zij zeiden: “Glorie voor Onze Heer! Waarlijk wij zijn onrechtvaardig geweest.”

They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers

Al-Qalam 68:30

فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖ يَتَلَٰوَمُونَ

Toen keerden zij zich tegen elkaar, elkaar beschuldigend.

Then they approached one another, blaming each other

Al-Qalam 68:31

قَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَٰغِينَ

Zij zeiden: “Wee voor ons! Waarlijk, wij waren de overtreders.

They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors

Al-Qalam 68:32

عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبۡدِلَنَا خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ

Wij hopen dat onze Heer ons in ruil een betere (tuin) geeft dan deze. Waarlijk, wij hopen op Allah.”

Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous

Al-Qalam 68:33

كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡعَذَابُۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ

Zo is de bestraffing maar waarlijk, de bestraffing van het hiernamaals is groter, als zij dat maar wisten.

Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew

Al-Qalam 68:34

إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Waarlijk voor de godvrezenden zijn de tuinen der vreugde bij hun Heer.

Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure

Al-Qalam 68:35

أَفَنَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ كَٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ

Zullen Wij dan de moslims als misdadigers behandelen?

Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals

Al-Qalam 68:36

مَا لَكُمۡ كَيۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ

Wat scheelt jullie? Hoe oordelen jullie?

What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge

Al-Qalam 68:37

أَمۡ لَكُمۡ كِتَٰبٞ فِيهِ تَدۡرُسُونَ

Of hebben jullie een boek waardoor jullie leren?

Or do you have a scripture in which you learn

Al-Qalam 68:38

إِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ

Dat al jullie wensen beantwoord zullen worden?

That indeed for you is whatever you choose

Al-Qalam 68:39

أَمۡ لَكُمۡ أَيۡمَٰنٌ عَلَيۡنَا بَٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ إِنَّ لَكُمۡ لَمَا تَحۡكُمُونَ

Of hebben jullie eden van Ons, die tot de dag der opstanding reiken, dat er voor jullie dat is wat jullie oordelen.

Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge

Al-Qalam 68:40

سَلۡهُمۡ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ

Vraag hun wie van hen daar garant voor staat!

Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible

Al-Qalam 68:41

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَكَآءُ فَلۡيَأۡتُواْ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمۡ إِن كَانُواْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Of hebben zij ‘deelgenoten’? Laat hen hun deelgenoten brengen als zij waarachtig zijn!

Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful

Al-Qalam 68:42

يَوۡمَ يُكۡشَفُ عَن سَاقٖ وَيُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ

(Gedenk) de dag waarop de scheen bloot zal worden gelegd en zij zullen opgeroepen worden om te knielen maar zij zullen daartoe niet in staat zijn.

The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able

Al-Qalam 68:43

خَٰشِعَةً أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٞۖ وَقَدۡ كَانُواْ يُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمۡ سَٰلِمُونَ

Hun ogen zullen neergeworpen worden – vernedering zal hen bedekken; werden zij opgeroepen om te knielen toen zij goed en gezond waren.

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound

Al-Qalam 68:44

فَذَرۡنِي وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِۖ سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُم مِّنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

Laat Mij dus alleen met degenen die deze Koran verloochenden. Wij zullen hen geleidelijk aan bestraffen vanuit richtingen die zij niet kunnen waarnemen.

So leave Me, [O Muhammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know

Al-Qalam 68:45

وَأُمۡلِي لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ كَيۡدِي مَتِينٌ

En Ik zal hun uitstel geven. Waarlijk Mijn plan is machtig.

And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm

Al-Qalam 68:46

أَمۡ تَسۡـَٔلُهُمۡ أَجۡرٗا فَهُم مِّن مَّغۡرَمٖ مُّثۡقَلُونَ

Of is het dat jij van hen een loon vraagt, zodat zij zwaar gebukt onder de schuld gaan?

Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down

Al-Qalam 68:47

أَمۡ عِندَهُمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبُ فَهُمۡ يَكۡتُبُونَ

Of dat de het onwaarneembare in hun handen is, zodat zij het op kunnen schrijven?

Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down

Al-Qalam 68:48

فَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلۡحُوتِ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكۡظُومٞ

Wees geduldig met het oordeel (zowel het Islamitische oordeel of het voorbeschikte oordeel) van jouw Heer, en wees niet zo als de metgezel van de vis (de profeet Yoenoes), - toen hij riep terwijl hij diep bedroefd was (de genezing van verdriet is jouw band met Allah versterken en veel je hart bij Allah luchten door het verrichten van smeekbede, dhikr en vrijwillige aanbiddingen).

Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed

Al-Qalam 68:49

لَّوۡلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعۡمَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذۡمُومٞ

Als de gunst van zijn Heer hem niet bereikt had, zou hij zeker, dus hij werd op de naakte kust geworpen; terwijl hij schuldig was.

If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured

Al-Qalam 68:50

فَٱجۡتَبَٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Maar zijn Heer koos hem uit en maakte hem tot een rechtvaardige.

And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous

Al-Qalam 68:51

وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَيُزۡلِقُونَكَ بِأَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ لَمَّا سَمِعُواْ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجۡنُونٞ

En waarlijk, degenen die ongelovig zijn zouden je bijna door hun blikken willen doden vanwege hun haat wanneer zij de overdenking horen en zeggen: “Waarlijk, hij is een gek!”

And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad

Al-Qalam 68:52

وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرٞ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

Maar het is niets anders dan een vermaning voor allen van de werelden.

But it is not except a reminder to the worlds
