Tafsir de la sourate At-Tawbah
At-Tawbah 9:1
بَرَآءَةٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
Proclamation solennelle par laquelle Allah et Son Messager dénoncent les pactes vous liant aux idolâtres.
[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists
At-Tawbah 9:2
فَسِيحُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَرۡبَعَةَ أَشۡهُرٖ وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّكُمۡ غَيۡرُ مُعۡجِزِي ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡزِي ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
Vous pourrez donc, vous idolâtres, durant quatre mois, vous déplacer en toute sécurité dans le pays, mais sachez que vous ne saurez échapper au châtiment d’Allah qui couvrira d’ignominie les impies.
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:3
وَأَذَٰنٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡحَجِّ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَرِيٓءٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ فَإِن تُبۡتُمۡ فَهُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡۖ وَإِن تَوَلَّيۡتُمۡ فَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّكُمۡ غَيۡرُ مُعۡجِزِي ٱللَّهِۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
Proclamation adressée aux hommes le jour du grand pèlerinage, de la part d’Allah et de Son Messager : Allah est délié de tout engagement envers les idolâtres, de même que Son Messager. Si donc vous vous repentez, cela vaudra mieux pour vous. Si, au contraire, vous vous obstinez dans l’impiété, sachez que vous ne saurez éviter le châtiment d’Allah. Annonce donc un douloureux tourment à ceux qui ont rejeté la foi.
And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away - then know that you will not cause failure to Allah. And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment
At-Tawbah 9:4
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَنقُصُوكُمۡ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَمۡ يُظَٰهِرُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَحَدٗا فَأَتِمُّوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِمۡ عَهۡدَهُمۡ إِلَىٰ مُدَّتِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
S’agissant des idolâtres qui vous sont liés par un pacte dont ils ont honoré toutes les clauses et qui n’ont pas soutenu vos ennemis contre vous, le traité conclu avec eux devra être respecté jusqu’au terme convenu. Allah aime ceux qui se gardent de toute trahison.
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]
At-Tawbah 9:5
فَإِذَا ٱنسَلَخَ ٱلۡأَشۡهُرُ ٱلۡحُرُمُ فَٱقۡتُلُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ حَيۡثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمۡ وَخُذُوهُمۡ وَٱحۡصُرُوهُمۡ وَٱقۡعُدُواْ لَهُمۡ كُلَّ مَرۡصَدٖۚ فَإِن تَابُواْ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُاْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَخَلُّواْ سَبِيلَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
A l’expiration des mois sacrés, vous pourrez tuer les païens où que vous les trouviez. Capturez-les, assiégez-les et dressez-leur des embuscades sur tout chemin. Mais s’ils se repentent, accomplissent la prière et s’acquittent de l’aumône, laissez-les en paix. Allah, en vérité, est Très Clément et Très Miséricordieux.
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:6
وَإِنۡ أَحَدٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ ٱسۡتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرۡهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسۡمَعَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبۡلِغۡهُ مَأۡمَنَهُۥۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ لَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ
Si, toutefois, l’un des idolâtres sollicite ta protection, réponds favorablement à sa requête de manière à ce qu’il entende la parole d’Allah. Puis assure-toi qu’il puisse regagner sa patrie sans être inquiété. Ce sont en effet des gens qui vivent dans l’ignorance.
And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah. Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know
At-Tawbah 9:7
كَيۡفَ يَكُونُ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ عَهۡدٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ رَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِۖ فَمَا ٱسۡتَقَٰمُواْ لَكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَقِيمُواْ لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
Comment les idolâtres, excepté ceux avec lesquels vous avez conclu une trêve près de la Mosquée sacrée, pourraient-ils bénéficier d’un pacte avec Allah et Son Messager ? Tant que ces derniers respectent leur engagement, honorez le vôtre. Allah aime ceux qui se gardent de toute trahison.
How can there be for the polytheists a treaty in the sight of Allah and with His Messenger, except for those with whom you made a treaty at al-Masjid al-Haram? So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]
At-Tawbah 9:8
كَيۡفَ وَإِن يَظۡهَرُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَا يَرۡقُبُواْ فِيكُمۡ إِلّٗا وَلَا ذِمَّةٗۚ يُرۡضُونَكُم بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَتَأۡبَىٰ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ فَٰسِقُونَ
Comment, alors que s’ils se trouvaient en position de force, ils ne respecteraient ni vos liens de parenté, ni l’engagement contracté ? Ils vous bercent de belles paroles pour vous satisfaire, mais sans que leurs cœurs y adhèrent. La plupart d’entre eux n’ont aucune loyauté.
How [can there be a treaty] while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse [compliance], and most of them are defiantly disobedient
At-Tawbah 9:9
ٱشۡتَرَوۡاْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنٗا قَلِيلٗا فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّهُمۡ سَآءَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
Ils vendent à vil prix les paroles d’Allah, détournant les hommes de Sa voie. Comme leur comportement est détestable !
They have exchanged the signs of Allah for a small price and averted [people] from His way. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing
At-Tawbah 9:10
لَا يَرۡقُبُونَ فِي مُؤۡمِنٍ إِلّٗا وَلَا ذِمَّةٗۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدُونَ
Ils ne respectent, à l’égard des croyants, ni liens de parenté, ni engagement contracté, ne songeant qu’à violer leur parole et à les agresser.
They do not observe toward a believer any pact of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors
At-Tawbah 9:11
فَإِن تَابُواْ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُاْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَإِخۡوَٰنُكُمۡ فِي ٱلدِّينِۗ وَنُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوۡمٖ يَعۡلَمُونَ
Mais s’ils se repentent, accomplissent la prière et s’acquittent de l’aumône, ils deviendront vos frères par la foi. Nous exposons clairement Nos enseignements à des gens capables de les comprendre.
But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then they are your brothers in religion; and We detail the verses for a people who know
At-Tawbah 9:12
وَإِن نَّكَثُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ عَهۡدِهِمۡ وَطَعَنُواْ فِي دِينِكُمۡ فَقَٰتِلُوٓاْ أَئِمَّةَ ٱلۡكُفۡرِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَآ أَيۡمَٰنَ لَهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَنتَهُونَ
S’ils rompent leur pacte et s’attaquent à votre religion, combattez les chefs de l’impiété, eux qui sont si peu enclins à honorer leur parole, afin qu’ils mettent fin à leurs hostilités.
And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease
At-Tawbah 9:13
أَلَا تُقَٰتِلُونَ قَوۡمٗا نَّكَثُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ وَهَمُّواْ بِإِخۡرَاجِ ٱلرَّسُولِ وَهُم بَدَءُوكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۚ أَتَخۡشَوۡنَهُمۡۚ فَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخۡشَوۡهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
N’allez-vous pas combattre des gens qui ont violé leur pacte et tenté d’expulser le Messager, et qui ont eux-mêmes engagé les hostilités ? Se peut-il que vous les redoutiez ? C’est plutôt Allah, si vous êtes vraiment croyants, que vous devez redouter.
Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun [the attack upon] you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are [truly] believers
At-Tawbah 9:14
قَٰتِلُوهُمۡ يُعَذِّبۡهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِأَيۡدِيكُمۡ وَيُخۡزِهِمۡ وَيَنصُرۡكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَيَشۡفِ صُدُورَ قَوۡمٖ مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
Combattez-les ! Allah, par vos mains, leur infligera le châtiment qu’ils méritent, les couvrira d’opprobre et vous accordera la victoire sur eux. Il apaisera les cœurs des croyants
Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people
At-Tawbah 9:15
وَيُذۡهِبۡ غَيۡظَ قُلُوبِهِمۡۗ وَيَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
et dissipera leur ressentiment. Puis Allah, par Sa science et Sa sagesse infinies, accueillera le repentir de qui Il voudra parmi eux.
And remove the fury in the believers' hearts. And Allah turns in forgiveness to whom He wills; and Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:16
أَمۡ حَسِبۡتُمۡ أَن تُتۡرَكُواْ وَلَمَّا يَعۡلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُواْ مِنكُمۡ وَلَمۡ يَتَّخِذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا رَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَلِيجَةٗۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ
Pensez-vous que vous ne subirez pas d’épreuves par lesquelles Allah distinguera ceux d’entre vous qui luttent sincèrement pour Sa cause et ne recherchent pas d’autres alliés que le Seigneur, Son Messager et les croyants ? Allah est parfaitement informé de vos agissements.
Do you think that you will be left [as you are] while Allah has not yet made evident those among you who strive [for His cause] and do not take other than Allah, His Messenger and the believers as intimates? And Allah is Acquainted with what you do
At-Tawbah 9:17
مَا كَانَ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ أَن يَعۡمُرُواْ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ شَٰهِدِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَٰلُهُمۡ وَفِي ٱلنَّارِ هُمۡ خَٰلِدُونَ
Il n’appartient aucunement aux païens de fréquenter les mosquées d’Allah alors qu’ils affichent ouvertement leur impiété. Voilà ceux dont les œuvres sont vaines et qui entreront en Enfer pour l’éternité.
It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah [while] witnessing against themselves with disbelief. [For] those, their deeds have become worthless, and in the Fire they will abide eternally
At-Tawbah 9:18
إِنَّمَا يَعۡمُرُ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَلَمۡ يَخۡشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ فَعَسَىٰٓ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَن يَكُونُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِينَ
Seuls sont dignes de fréquenter les mosquées ceux qui croient en Allah et au Jour dernier, accomplissent la prière, s’acquittent de l’aumône et ne craignent qu’Allah. Voilà ceux qui suivent le droit chemin.
The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah, for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided
At-Tawbah 9:19
۞أَجَعَلۡتُمۡ سِقَايَةَ ٱلۡحَآجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ كَمَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَجَٰهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ لَا يَسۡتَوُۥنَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
Mettrez-vous sur un pied d’égalité ceux qui ont la charge d’approvisionner les pèlerins en eau et la garde de la Mosquée sacrée, et ceux qui croient en Allah et au Jour dernier, tout en luttant pour Sa cause ? Ils ne sont pourtant pas égaux devant Allah, qui ne saurait guider les injustes.
Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrim and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram equal to [the deeds of] one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the cause of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people
At-Tawbah 9:20
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَهَاجَرُواْ وَجَٰهَدُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ أَعۡظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَآئِزُونَ
Ceux qui, après avoir embrassé la foi, ont émigré et sacrifié leurs biens et leurs vies pour la cause d’Allah occupent un rang bien plus élevé auprès d’Allah. Voilà ceux qui ont gagné leur salut,
The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success]
At-Tawbah 9:21
يُبَشِّرُهُمۡ رَبُّهُم بِرَحۡمَةٖ مِّنۡهُ وَرِضۡوَٰنٖ وَجَنَّـٰتٖ لَّهُمۡ فِيهَا نَعِيمٞ مُّقِيمٌ
ceux auxquels leur Seigneur, pleinement satisfait d’eux, annonce une miséricorde infinie et promet des jardins où ils jouiront d’une félicité éternelle
Their Lord gives them good tidings of mercy from Him and approval and of gardens for them wherein is enduring pleasure
At-Tawbah 9:22
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجۡرٌ عَظِيمٞ
et où ils demeureront à jamais. Auprès d’Allah se trouve en effet une immense récompense.
[They will be] abiding therein forever. Indeed, Allah has with Him a great reward
At-Tawbah 9:23
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓاْ ءَابَآءَكُمۡ وَإِخۡوَٰنَكُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءَ إِنِ ٱسۡتَحَبُّواْ ٱلۡكُفۡرَ عَلَى ٱلۡإِيمَٰنِۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمۡ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
Vous qui croyez ! Gardez-vous de prendre pour alliés vos pères et vos frères s’ils préfèrent l’impiété à la foi. Ceux d’entre vous qui choisiraient de s’allier à eux feraient preuve de la plus grande iniquité.
O you who have believed, do not take your fathers or your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief. And whoever does so among you - then it is those who are the wrongdoers
At-Tawbah 9:24
قُلۡ إِن كَانَ ءَابَآؤُكُمۡ وَأَبۡنَآؤُكُمۡ وَإِخۡوَٰنُكُمۡ وَأَزۡوَٰجُكُمۡ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمۡ وَأَمۡوَٰلٌ ٱقۡتَرَفۡتُمُوهَا وَتِجَٰرَةٞ تَخۡشَوۡنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَٰكِنُ تَرۡضَوۡنَهَآ أَحَبَّ إِلَيۡكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادٖ فِي سَبِيلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُواْ حَتَّىٰ يَأۡتِيَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
Dis : « Si vos pères, vos fils, vos frères, vos épouses, votre clan, les richesses que vous avez amassées, les marchandises que vous craignez de ne pouvoir écouler et les demeures qui vous sont agréables, vous sont plus chers qu’Allah, Son Messager et la lutte pour Sa cause, alors attendez qu’Allah prononce Son jugement. Allah ne saurait guider ceux qui Lui refusent obéissance. »
Say, [O Muhammad], "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people
At-Tawbah 9:25
لَقَدۡ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِي مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيرَةٖ وَيَوۡمَ حُنَيۡنٍ إِذۡ أَعۡجَبَتۡكُمۡ كَثۡرَتُكُمۡ فَلَمۡ تُغۡنِ عَنكُمۡ شَيۡـٔٗا وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ ثُمَّ وَلَّيۡتُم مُّدۡبِرِينَ
Allah vous a permis de remporter de nombreuses batailles, comme celle de Hounayn où votre nombre, dont vous tiriez fierté, ne vous fut d’aucune utilité. La terre, pourtant si vaste, vous parut ce jour-là bien étroite. Vous avez donc tourné le dos à l’ennemi et pris la fuite.
Allah has already given you victory in many regions and [even] on the day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you at all, and the earth was confining for you with its vastness; then you turned back, fleeing
At-Tawbah 9:26
ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودٗا لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَعَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
Allah fit ensuite descendre quiétude et sérénité sur Son Messager et les croyants, ainsi que des armées invisibles d’anges, et infligea une cuisante défaite à ceux qui avaient rejeté la foi. Tel est le châtiment que méritent les mécréants.
Then Allah sent down His tranquillity upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down soldiers angels whom you did not see and punished those who disbelieved. And that is the recompense of the disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:27
ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
Allah, Très Clément et Très Miséricordieux, accueillera ensuite le repentir de qui Il voudra.
Then Allah will accept repentance after that for whom He wills; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:28
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ نَجَسٞ فَلَا يَقۡرَبُواْ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدَ ٱلۡحَرَامَ بَعۡدَ عَامِهِمۡ هَٰذَاۚ وَإِنۡ خِفۡتُمۡ عَيۡلَةٗ فَسَوۡفَ يُغۡنِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦٓ إِن شَآءَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
Vous qui croyez ! Sachez que les idolâtres ne sont qu’impureté. Qu’ils n’aient donc plus accès au territoire sacré après cette année. Si vous craignez la pauvreté, Allah, s’Il le veut, pourvoira par Sa grâce à vos besoins. Allah, en vérité, est Omniscient et infiniment Sage.
O you who have believed, indeed the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach al-Masjid al-Haram after this, their [final] year. And if you fear privation, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:29
قَٰتِلُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلۡحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعۡطُواْ ٱلۡجِزۡيَةَ عَن يَدٖ وَهُمۡ صَٰغِرُونَ
Combattez les gens du Livre, eux qui ne croient ni en Allah, ni au Jour dernier, ne s’interdisent pas ce qu’Allah et Son Messager ont prohibé et ne professent pas la religion de vérité, jusqu’à ce qu’ils viennent se rabaisser en versant de leurs propres mains le tribut qui leur est imposé.
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled
At-Tawbah 9:30
وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ عُزَيۡرٌ ٱبۡنُ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَى ٱلۡمَسِيحُ ٱبۡنُ ٱللَّهِۖ ذَٰلِكَ قَوۡلُهُم بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡۖ يُضَٰهِـُٔونَ قَوۡلَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَبۡلُۚ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ أَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَكُونَ
Les juifs prétendent qu’Ouzayr est le fils d’Allah, tandis que les chrétiens affirment que c’est le Messie qui est le fils d’Allah. Pures prétentions sans aucun fondement. Ils répètent simplement ce que d’autres impies affirmaient avant eux. Qu’Allah les maudisse ! Comment peuvent-ils à ce point se détourner de la vérité.
The Jews say, "Ezra is the son of Allah "; and the Christians say, "The Messiah is the son of Allah." That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved [before them]. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded
At-Tawbah 9:31
ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابٗا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَٰهٗا وَٰحِدٗاۖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُونَ
Ils ont élevé au rang de divinités en dehors d’Allah leurs docteurs de la loi et leurs moines, de même que le Messie, fils de Marie, alors qu’ils ont simplement reçu l’ordre de n’adorer qu’un seul dieu. Il n’est de divinité digne d’être vénérée que Lui. Gloire à Lui ! Il est bien au-dessus de ce qu’ils Lui associent.
They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him
At-Tawbah 9:32
يُرِيدُونَ أَن يُطۡفِـُٔواْ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَيَأۡبَى ٱللَّهُ إِلَّآ أَن يُتِمَّ نُورَهُۥ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ
Ils cherchent, par leurs mensonges, à éteindre la lumière d’Allah qui entend seulement parachever Sa lumière, n’en déplaise aux impies.
They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it
At-Tawbah 9:33
هُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَرۡسَلَ رَسُولَهُۥ بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ ٱلۡحَقِّ لِيُظۡهِرَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِۦ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ
C’est Lui qui a envoyé Son Messager avec une révélation à même d’assurer le salut de l’humanité et la vraie religion pour la faire triompher de tout autre culte, n’en déplaise aux idolâtres.
It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it
At-Tawbah 9:34
۞يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَحۡبَارِ وَٱلرُّهۡبَانِ لَيَأۡكُلُونَ أَمۡوَٰلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَكۡنِزُونَ ٱلذَّهَبَ وَٱلۡفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٖ
Vous qui croyez ! Sachez que nombre de docteurs de la loi et de moines s’approprient injustement les biens de leurs semblables et s’emploient à les détourner de la voie d’Allah. A ceux qui amassent l’or et l’argent, sans en consacrer une partie à la cause d’Allah, tu peux dès à présent annoncer un douloureux châtiment.
O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment
At-Tawbah 9:35
يَوۡمَ يُحۡمَىٰ عَلَيۡهَا فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكۡوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمۡ وَجُنُوبُهُمۡ وَظُهُورُهُمۡۖ هَٰذَا مَا كَنَزۡتُمۡ لِأَنفُسِكُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡنِزُونَ
Le Jour où ces métaux seront portés à incandescence dans le feu de la Géhenne, puis appliqués encore brûlants sur leurs fronts, leurs flancs et leurs dos, il leur sera dit : « Voici les trésors que vous avez amassés pour vous-mêmes. Goûtez donc le châtiment pour prix de ces richesses que vous n’avez cessé d’amasser ! »
The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], "This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard
At-Tawbah 9:36
إِنَّ عِدَّةَ ٱلشُّهُورِ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱثۡنَا عَشَرَ شَهۡرٗا فِي كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ يَوۡمَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۡهَآ أَرۡبَعَةٌ حُرُمٞۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمُۚ فَلَا تَظۡلِمُواْ فِيهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمۡۚ وَقَٰتِلُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ كَآفَّةٗ كَمَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمۡ كَآفَّةٗۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
Allah a décrété, le jour où Il a créé les cieux et la terre, que l’année se composerait de douze mois, dont quatre sont sacrés. Tel est l’ordre établi par Allah. Que nul ne se montre injuste durant ces mois. Rassemblez vos forces contre les idolâtres, de même qu’ils font bloc contre vous, et sachez qu’Allah est avec ceux qui Le craignent.
Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him]
At-Tawbah 9:37
إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِيٓءُ زِيَادَةٞ فِي ٱلۡكُفۡرِۖ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامٗا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامٗا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔواْ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّواْ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُۚ زُيِّنَ لَهُمۡ سُوٓءُ أَعۡمَٰلِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
Le report d’un mois sacré ne fait qu’ajouter à l’impiété et à l’égarement des mécréants qui, par cette pratique, profanent l’un des mois sacrés une année sur deux, respectant le nombre total de mois sacrés, mais profanant un mois rendu sacré par Allah. Leur odieux procédé est ainsi embelli à leurs yeux. Allah ne saurait guider ceux qui persistent dans l’impiété.
Indeed, the postponing [of restriction within sacred months] is an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led [further] astray. They make it lawful one year and unlawful another year to correspond to the number made unlawful by Allah and [thus] make lawful what Allah has made unlawful. Made pleasing to them is the evil of their deeds; and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people
At-Tawbah 9:38
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَا لَكُمۡ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمُ ٱنفِرُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱثَّاقَلۡتُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ أَرَضِيتُم بِٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا مِنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ فَمَا مَتَٰعُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ
Vous qui croyez ! Qu’avez-vous à traîner les pieds lorsque vous êtes appelés à vous lancer au combat pour défendre la cause d’Allah. Etes-vous satisfaits de cette vie au point de la préférer à la vie éternelle ? Les plaisirs terrestres sont pourtant insignifiants par rapport aux délices de l’au-delà.
O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah, you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little
At-Tawbah 9:39
إِلَّا تَنفِرُواْ يُعَذِّبۡكُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِيمٗا وَيَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ قَوۡمًا غَيۡرَكُمۡ وَلَا تَضُرُّوهُ شَيۡـٔٗاۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٌ
Si vous refusez d’aller au combat, votre attitude ne nuira en rien à Allah qui vous infligera un châtiment douloureux et vous remplacera par un autre peuple. Allah a pouvoir sur toute chose.
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. And Allah is over all things competent
At-Tawbah 9:40
إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ثَانِيَ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِي ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ يَقُولُ لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَاۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَيَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودٖ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰۗ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِيَ ٱلۡعُلۡيَاۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
Si vous refusez votre soutien au Messager, sachez qu’Allah lui a apporté le Sien lorsque, forcé par les impies à l’exil avec son compagnon, il dit à celui-ci dans la grotte où les deux hommes avaient trouvé refuge : « Ne t’afflige pas, Allah est avec nous ! » Allah fit alors descendre quiétude et sérénité sur Son Messager et l’assista d’armées invisibles. Puis Il renversa le culte des mécréants et éleva bien haut la religion de l’unicité. Allah est Tout-Puissant et infiniment Sage.
If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:41
ٱنفِرُواْ خِفَافٗا وَثِقَالٗا وَجَٰهِدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Appesantis par l’âge ou encore jeunes, lancez-vous au combat et sacrifiez vos biens et vos vies pour la cause d’Allah. Voilà qui est préférable pour vous, si seulement vous saviez.
Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah. That is better for you, if you only knew
At-Tawbah 9:42
لَوۡ كَانَ عَرَضٗا قَرِيبٗا وَسَفَرٗا قَاصِدٗا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُۚ وَسَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡنَا لَخَرَجۡنَا مَعَكُمۡ يُهۡلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
S’il s’était agi d’un butin à portée de main et d’une expédition sans difficultés, ils n’auraient pas hésité à t’accompagner. Mais ils furent rebutés par un voyage qui s’annonçait long et pénible. Ils jureront par Allah à votre retour à Médine, causant leur propre ruine : « Si nous avions pu, nous vous aurions accompagnés. » Allah sait parfaitement qu’ils ne font que mentir.
Had it been an easy gain and a moderate trip, the hypocrites would have followed you, but distant to them was the journey. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, we would have gone forth with you," destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allah knows that indeed they are liars
At-Tawbah 9:43
عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُواْ وَتَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ
Qu’Allah te pardonne ! Pourquoi les as-tu dispensés d’aller au combat avant de distinguer ceux d’entre eux qui disaient vrai de ceux qui mentaient.
May Allah pardon you, [O Muhammad]; why did you give them permission [to remain behind]? [You should not have] until it was evident to you who were truthful and you knew [who were] the liars
At-Tawbah 9:44
لَا يَسۡتَـٔۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ أَن يُجَٰهِدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
Ceux qui croient réellement en Allah et au Jour dernier ne viennent jamais te demander une dispense quand il s’agit de sacrifier leurs biens et leurs vies. Allah connaît parfaitement les vrais croyants.
Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day would not ask permission of you to be excused from striving with their wealth and their lives. And Allah is Knowing of those who fear Him
At-Tawbah 9:45
إِنَّمَا يَسۡتَـٔۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَٱرۡتَابَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِي رَيۡبِهِمۡ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ
Seuls te réclament cette dispense ceux qui ne croient ni en Allah, ni au Jour dernier, ceux qui, rongés par le doute, demeurent dans la plus grande incertitude.
Only those would ask permission of you who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts have doubted, and they, in their doubt, are hesitating
At-Tawbah 9:46
۞وَلَوۡ أَرَادُواْ ٱلۡخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّواْ لَهُۥ عُدَّةٗ وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمۡ فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ وَقِيلَ ٱقۡعُدُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ
Si vraiment ils avaient voulu s’engager dans cette expédition, ils s’y seraient préparés. Mais, répugnant à les voir prendre le départ, Allah les a abandonnés à leur paresse et a décrété qu’ils devaient rester à l’arrière avec ceux qui sont exemptés.
And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain
At-Tawbah 9:47
لَوۡ خَرَجُواْ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمۡ إِلَّا خَبَالٗا وَلَأَوۡضَعُواْ خِلَٰلَكُمۡ يَبۡغُونَكُمُ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ وَفِيكُمۡ سَمَّـٰعُونَ لَهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
D’ailleurs, s’ils vous avaient accompagnés, ils n’auraient fait que saper le moral des troupes et semer les troubles parmi vous, cherchant à jeter la confusion dans vos rangs. Or, certains d’entre vous leur prêtent volontiers l’oreille. Mais Allah connaît parfaitement les impies.
Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers
At-Tawbah 9:48
لَقَدِ ٱبۡتَغَوُاْ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ مِن قَبۡلُ وَقَلَّبُواْ لَكَ ٱلۡأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمۡ كَٰرِهُونَ
Ils ont déjà, avant cela, cherché à semer la division et la confusion dans vos rangs et à te nuire par leurs intrigues, jusqu’au jour où, à leur grand désarroi, la vérité s’est manifestée et la religion d’Allah a triomphé.
They had already desired dissension before and had upset matters for you until the truth came and the ordinance of Allah appeared, while they were averse
At-Tawbah 9:49
وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئۡذَن لِّي وَلَا تَفۡتِنِّيٓۚ أَلَا فِي ٱلۡفِتۡنَةِ سَقَطُواْۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةُۢ بِٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
Tel d’entre eux vient te dire : « Dispense-moi de cette expédition, ne m’expose pas à la tentation. » Ils ont pourtant succombé à la pire des tentations. En vérité, la Géhenne cernera les impies de tous côtés.
And among them is he who says, "Permit me [to remain at home] and do not put me to trial." Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen. And indeed, Hell will encompass the disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:50
إِن تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةٞ تَسُؤۡهُمۡۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡكَ مُصِيبَةٞ يَقُولُواْ قَدۡ أَخَذۡنَآ أَمۡرَنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَيَتَوَلَّواْ وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُونَ
Obtiens-tu un succès, ils s’en affligent, mais si tu subis un revers, ils se disent : « Nous avons bien fait de prendre nos précautions », avant de repartir tout heureux de la situation.
If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing
At-Tawbah 9:51
قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ
Dis-leur : « Rien ne nous arrivera qui n’ait été décrété par Allah. Il est notre Protecteur. C’est à Allah seul que doivent s’en remettre les croyants. »
Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely
At-Tawbah 9:52
قُلۡ هَلۡ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَآ إِلَّآ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡحُسۡنَيَيۡنِۖ وَنَحۡنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمۡ أَن يُصِيبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابٖ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦٓ أَوۡ بِأَيۡدِينَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوٓاْ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ
Dis : « Que pouvez-vous d’ailleurs espérer qu’il nous arrive sinon l’un des deux heureux événements, la victoire ou le martyre ? Quant à nous, nous espérons qu’Allah vous châtiera Lui-même ou par notre intermédiaire. Attendez donc, nous attendons avec vous ! »
Say, "Do you await for us except one of the two best things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting
At-Tawbah 9:53
قُلۡ أَنفِقُواْ طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهٗا لَّن يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ
Dis : « Que vous dépensiez de gré ou de force vos biens pour la cause d’Allah, vos dons ne seront jamais acceptés, car vous avez choisi l’impiété. »
Say, "Spend willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you. Indeed, you have been a defiantly disobedient people
At-Tawbah 9:54
وَمَا مَنَعَهُمۡ أَن تُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُمۡ نَفَقَٰتُهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا يَأۡتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كَٰرِهُونَ
La seule raison qui empêche leurs dons d’être acceptés est qu’ils ne croient ni en Allah, ni en Son Messager, qu’ils ne se rendent à la prière qu’avec paresse et ne dépensent leurs biens qu’à contrecœur.
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling
At-Tawbah 9:55
فَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَٰلُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَوۡلَٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِي ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ
Que leurs richesses et leurs enfants ne t’émerveillent surtout pas. Allah entend seulement en faire pour eux une source de tourments ici-bas, avant qu’ils ne rendent l’âme en mécréants.
So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:56
وَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمِنكُمۡ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ يَفۡرَقُونَ
Ils jurent par Allah qu’ils sont des vôtres, alors qu’il n’en est rien. Ils cherchent seulement à se protéger.
And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you; but they are a people who are afraid
At-Tawbah 9:57
لَوۡ يَجِدُونَ مَلۡجَـًٔا أَوۡ مَغَٰرَٰتٍ أَوۡ مُدَّخَلٗا لَّوَلَّوۡاْ إِلَيۡهِ وَهُمۡ يَجۡمَحُونَ
S’ils trouvaient un refuge quelconque, une grotte ou un souterrain, ils iraient à bride abattue s’y dissimuler.
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly
At-Tawbah 9:58
وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَلۡمِزُكَ فِي ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ فَإِنۡ أُعۡطُواْ مِنۡهَا رَضُواْ وَإِن لَّمۡ يُعۡطَوۡاْ مِنۡهَآ إِذَا هُمۡ يَسۡخَطُونَ
Certains, parmi eux, te critiquent ouvertement au sujet du partage de l’aumône. Satisfaits, s’ils en reçoivent une bonne part, ils expriment leur colère dans le cas contraire.
And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry
At-Tawbah 9:59
وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ رَضُواْ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُواْ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَيُؤۡتِينَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَٰغِبُونَ
Si seulement, se contentant de la part qu’Allah et Son Messager leur ont attribuée, ils disaient : « Allah nous suffit. Il nous accordera encore de Ses faveurs, de même que Son Messager. C’est en Allah que nous plaçons tous nos espoirs. »
If only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them and said, "Sufficient for us is Allah; Allah will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allah," [it would have been better for them]
At-Tawbah 9:60
۞إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَٰتُ لِلۡفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱلۡعَٰمِلِينَ عَلَيۡهَا وَٱلۡمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَفِي ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلۡغَٰرِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِۖ فَرِيضَةٗ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
L’aumône légale est réservée aux pauvres, aux nécessiteux, à ceux chargés de la collecter, à ceux dont les cœurs sont à gagner, à l’affranchissement des esclaves et au rachat des captifs, aux musulmans incapables de rembourser leurs dettes, à ceux qui luttent pour la cause d’Allah et aux voyageurs démunis. Voilà ce qu’Allah, Omniscient et infiniment Sage, vous impose.
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:61
وَمِنۡهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡذُونَ ٱلنَّبِيَّ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنٞۚ قُلۡ أُذُنُ خَيۡرٖ لَّكُمۡ يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَيُؤۡمِنُ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَرَحۡمَةٞ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنكُمۡۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡذُونَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
Certains, parmi eux, blessent le Prophète en disant : « Il écoute et croit tout ce qu’on lui raconte. » Dis-leur : « Il est effectivement à l’écoute de toute bonne parole. Mais il croit uniquement en Allah et en ce que disent les croyants pour lesquels il est plein de mansuétude. » Quiconque blesse le Messager d’Allah est voué à un douloureux châtiment.
And among them are those who abuse the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "[It is] an ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and [is] a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who abuse the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment
At-Tawbah 9:62
يَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ لِيُرۡضُوكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَحَقُّ أَن يُرۡضُوهُ إِن كَانُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ
Les hypocrites vous jurent par Allah de leur bonne foi afin de gagner vos bonnes grâces. Ce sont plutôt les grâces d’Allah et de Son Messager qu’ils devraient rechercher, s’ils étaient vraiment croyants.
They swear by Allah to you [Muslims] to satisfy you. But Allah and His Messenger are more worthy for them to satisfy, if they should be believers
At-Tawbah 9:63
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّهُۥ مَن يُحَادِدِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَأَنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدٗا فِيهَاۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡخِزۡيُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Ne savent-ils pas que ceux qui s’opposent à Allah et Son Messager sont voués au feu de la Géhenne où ils demeureront pour l’éternité ? Voilà le dernier degré de l’humiliation.
Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - that for him is the fire of Hell, wherein he will abide eternally? That is the great disgrace
At-Tawbah 9:64
يَحۡذَرُ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ أَن تُنَزَّلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ سُورَةٞ تُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ قُلِ ٱسۡتَهۡزِءُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡرِجٞ مَّا تَحۡذَرُونَ
Les hypocrites redoutent que soit révélée à leur sujet une sourate dévoilant leurs pensées secrètes. Dis : « Moquez-vous donc ! Allah fera certainement apparaître les secrets dont vous redoutez la divulgation. »
They hypocrites are apprehensive lest a surah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock [as you wish]; indeed, Allah will expose that which you fear
At-Tawbah 9:65
وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُمۡ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلۡعَبُۚ قُلۡ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
Si tu les interrogeais, ils répondraient sans aucun doute : « Nous ne faisions que discuter et plaisanter. » Dis : « Est-ce Allah, Ses versets et Son Messager que vous tourniez en dérision ?
And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking
At-Tawbah 9:66
لَا تَعۡتَذِرُواْ قَدۡ كَفَرۡتُم بَعۡدَ إِيمَٰنِكُمۡۚ إِن نَّعۡفُ عَن طَآئِفَةٖ مِّنكُمۡ نُعَذِّبۡ طَآئِفَةَۢ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ
Ne vous cherchez aucune excuse. Votre impiété, que vous dissimuliez jusque-là derrière la foi, s’est clairement manifestée. Si Nous pardonnons à une partie d’entre vous, d’autres seront assurément châtiés pour prix de leur comportement criminel. »
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals
At-Tawbah 9:67
ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ بَعۡضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡضٖۚ يَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَيَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَيَقۡبِضُونَ أَيۡدِيَهُمۡۚ نَسُواْ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَٰسِقُونَ
Les hypocrites, hommes et femmes, se ressemblent. Ils incitent les autres au vice, les éloignent de la vertu et sont avares de leurs biens. Ils ont oublié Allah qui les a abandonnés à leur sort. Ce sont bien les hypocrites qui se sont écartés du droit chemin.
The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient
At-Tawbah 9:68
وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلۡكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۚ هِيَ حَسۡبُهُمۡۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّقِيمٞ
Allah a promis aux hypocrites, hommes et femmes, et aux infidèles, le feu de la Géhenne où leur supplice sera éternel. Châtiment amplement suffisant pour ces êtres maudits par Allah et voués à des tourments perpétuels.
Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell, wherein they will abide eternally. It is sufficient for them. And Allah has cursed them, and for them is an enduring punishment
At-Tawbah 9:69
كَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ كَانُوٓاْ أَشَدَّ مِنكُمۡ قُوَّةٗ وَأَكۡثَرَ أَمۡوَٰلٗا وَأَوۡلَٰدٗا فَٱسۡتَمۡتَعُواْ بِخَلَٰقِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَمۡتَعۡتُم بِخَلَٰقِكُمۡ كَمَا ٱسۡتَمۡتَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكُم بِخَلَٰقِهِمۡ وَخُضۡتُمۡ كَٱلَّذِي خَاضُوٓاْۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَٰلُهُمۡ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ
Vous subirez le sort des peuples ayant vécu avant vous qui, bien que plus puissants que vous et pourvus de plus de richesses et d’enfants, furent exterminés après avoir obtenu leur part des jouissances terrestres, comme vous jouissez vous-mêmes de votre lot des plaisirs de ce monde. Vous avez en effet proféré les mêmes paroles impies. Voilà ceux qui ne bénéficieront aucunement de leurs œuvres ici-bas et dans l’au-delà. Voilà ceux qui ont perdu leurs âmes.
[You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have engaged [in vanities] like that in which they engaged. [It is] those whose deeds have become worthless in this world and in the Hereafter, and it is they who are the losers
At-Tawbah 9:70
أَلَمۡ يَأۡتِهِمۡ نَبَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ قَوۡمِ نُوحٖ وَعَادٖ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوۡمِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَأَصۡحَٰبِ مَدۡيَنَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتِۚ أَتَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ
N’ont-ils pas su ce qu’il est advenu des peuples ayant vécu avant eux : le peuple de Noé, les ‘Ad, les Thamoud, le peuple d’Abraham, les habitants de Madian et des cités renversées, auxquels toutes les preuves ont été apportées par leurs Messagers ? Il ne convenait pas à Allah de les léser, mais ils se sont lésés eux-mêmes.
Has there not reached them the news of those before them - the people of Noah and [the tribes of] 'Aad and Thamud and the people of Abraham and the companions of Madyan and the towns overturned? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. And Allah would never have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves
At-Tawbah 9:71
وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتُ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءُ بَعۡضٖۚ يَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَيَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَيُطِيعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ سَيَرۡحَمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٞ
Les croyants et les croyantes, quant à eux, sont solidaires les uns des autres. Ils incitent les autres à la vertu, condamnent le vice, accomplissent la prière, s’acquittent de l’aumône et obéissent à Allah et Son Messager. Voilà ceux qu’Allah, Tout-Puissant et infiniment Sage, admettra dans Sa grâce.
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:72
وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَمَسَٰكِنَ طَيِّبَةٗ فِي جَنَّـٰتِ عَدۡنٖۚ وَرِضۡوَٰنٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Allah a promis aux croyants et aux croyantes des jardins traversés de rivières où ils vivront pour l’éternité et des demeures agréables dans les jardins d’Eden. Mais rien ne les comblera plus que d’être agréés par Allah. Voilà le bonheur suprême.
Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment
At-Tawbah 9:73
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغۡلُظۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ
Prophète ! Mène une lutte sans merci contre les impies et les hypocrites qui sont tous voués à la Géhenne. Et quelle horrible demeure !
O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination
At-Tawbah 9:74
يَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ مَا قَالُواْ وَلَقَدۡ قَالُواْ كَلِمَةَ ٱلۡكُفۡرِ وَكَفَرُواْ بَعۡدَ إِسۡلَٰمِهِمۡ وَهَمُّواْ بِمَا لَمۡ يَنَالُواْۚ وَمَا نَقَمُوٓاْ إِلَّآ أَنۡ أَغۡنَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦۚ فَإِن يَتُوبُواْ يَكُ خَيۡرٗا لَّهُمۡۖ وَإِن يَتَوَلَّوۡاْ يُعَذِّبۡهُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمٗا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ وَمَا لَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٖ
Ils jurent par Allah qu’ils n’ont rien dit de mal, alors qu’ils ont prononcé des mots témoignant de leur impiété et renié ouvertement la foi qu’ils avaient feint d’embrasser. Leurs sinistres projets ont échoué. Qu’ont-ils d’ailleurs à reprocher à Allah et Son Messager sinon d’avoir été comblés de faveurs ? S’ils se repentent, ce sera bien mieux pour eux, mais s’ils s’obstinent, Allah leur infligera un châtiment douloureux ici-bas et dans l’au-delà. Nul, sur terre, ne sera en mesure de les soutenir ou de les protéger.
They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam and planned that which they were not to attain. And they were not resentful except [for the fact] that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any protector or helper
At-Tawbah 9:75
۞وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ عَٰهَدَ ٱللَّهَ لَئِنۡ ءَاتَىٰنَا مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
Certains, parmi eux, ont pris l’engagement envers Allah, s’Il leur accorde de Ses faveurs, de faire l’aumône en croyants vertueux.
And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous
At-Tawbah 9:76
فَلَمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦ بَخِلُواْ بِهِۦ وَتَوَلَّواْ وَّهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ
Mais, tournant le dos à leur engagement, ils se montrèrent avares des faveurs qui leur furent accordées par le Seigneur.
But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused
At-Tawbah 9:77
فَأَعۡقَبَهُمۡ نِفَاقٗا فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يَلۡقَوۡنَهُۥ بِمَآ أَخۡلَفُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوهُ وَبِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡذِبُونَ
Pour prix de leur trahison et de leurs mensonges, Allah a marqué leurs cœurs d’une infâme hypocrisie dont ils ne pourront se défaire jusqu’au Jour où ils Le rencontreront.
So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie
At-Tawbah 9:78
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ سِرَّهُمۡ وَنَجۡوَىٰهُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلۡغُيُوبِ
Ne savent-ils pas que leurs pensées les plus intimes et leurs entretiens les plus secrets sont parfaitement connus d’Allah auquel rien ne peut être dissimulé ?
Did they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their private conversations and that Allah is the Knower of the unseen
At-Tawbah 9:79
ٱلَّذِينَ يَلۡمِزُونَ ٱلۡمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ فِي ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ إِلَّا جُهۡدَهُمۡ فَيَسۡخَرُونَ مِنۡهُمۡ سَخِرَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Que ceux qui critiquent les croyants qui font volontairement l’aumône et se moquent de ceux qui font la charité selon leurs faibles moyens, sachent qu’Allah répondra à leurs moqueries et les soumettra à un douloureux châtiment.
Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort, so they ridicule them - Allah will ridicule them, and they will have a painful punishment
At-Tawbah 9:80
ٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ أَوۡ لَا تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ إِن تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ سَبۡعِينَ مَرَّةٗ فَلَن يَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
Que tu implores ou non le pardon de leurs péchés, Allah ne saurait leur pardonner, quand bien même tu implorerais pardon pour eux soixante-dix fois. Ils ont en effet renié Allah et Son Messager. Allah ne saurait guider ceux qui Lui refusent obéissance.
Ask forgiveness for them, [O Muhammad], or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times - never will Allah forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people
At-Tawbah 9:81
فَرِحَ ٱلۡمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقۡعَدِهِمۡ خِلَٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوٓاْ أَن يُجَٰهِدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُواْ لَا تَنفِرُواْ فِي ٱلۡحَرِّۗ قُلۡ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرّٗاۚ لَّوۡ كَانُواْ يَفۡقَهُونَ
Ceux qui sont restés à l’arrière se sont réjouis de ne pas accompagner le Messager. Répugnant à sacrifier leurs biens et leurs vies pour la cause d’Allah, les uns disaient aux autres : « Ne partez pas au combat par cette chaleur. » Dis-leur : « Le feu de la Géhenne est autrement plus intense. » Si seulement ils pouvaient le comprendre.
Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, "Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand
At-Tawbah 9:82
فَلۡيَضۡحَكُواْ قَلِيلٗا وَلۡيَبۡكُواْ كَثِيرٗا جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ
Qu’ils rient quelque peu, ils pleureront beaucoup pour prix de leurs agissements.
So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much as recompense for what they used to earn
At-Tawbah 9:83
فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَآئِفَةٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَـٔۡذَنُوكَ لِلۡخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخۡرُجُواْ مَعِيَ أَبَدٗا وَلَن تُقَٰتِلُواْ مَعِيَ عَدُوًّاۖ إِنَّكُمۡ رَضِيتُم بِٱلۡقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖ فَٱقۡعُدُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡخَٰلِفِينَ
Si, par la grâce d’Allah, tu dois revenir de cette campagne et qu’un groupe d’entre eux vienne te demander l’autorisation de participer à une nouvelle expédition, tu leur répondras : « Vous ne partirez plus jamais au combat en ma compagnie, ni ne combattrez d’ennemi à mes côtés. Il vous a plu en effet de rester chez vous la première fois. Demeurez donc dans vos foyers avec ceux qui restent à l’arrière ! »
If Allah should return you to a faction of them [after the expedition] and then they ask your permission to go out [to battle], say, "You will not go out with me, ever, and you will never fight with me an enemy. Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting [at home] the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind
At-Tawbah 9:84
وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰٓ أَحَدٖ مِّنۡهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدٗا وَلَا تَقُمۡ عَلَىٰ قَبۡرِهِۦٓۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُواْ وَهُمۡ فَٰسِقُونَ
N’accomplis jamais la prière funèbre sur la dépouille de l’un d’entre eux et ne te recueille jamais sur sa tombe. Ils ont en effet renié Allah et Son Messager et sont morts en impies.
And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient
At-Tawbah 9:85
وَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَٰلُهُمۡ وَأَوۡلَٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ
Que leurs richesses et leurs enfants ne t’émerveillent surtout pas. Allah entend seulement en faire pour eux une source de tourments ici-bas avant qu’ils ne rendent l’âme en mécréants.
And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:86
وَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةٌ أَنۡ ءَامِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَٰهِدُواْ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسۡتَـٔۡذَنَكَ أُوْلُواْ ٱلطَّوۡلِ مِنۡهُمۡ وَقَالُواْ ذَرۡنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ
Lorsqu’une sourate ordonnant de croire en Allah et de combattre aux côtés de Son Messager est révélée, les plus aisés d’entre eux te demandent de les en dispenser, disant : « Laisse-nous avec ceux qui sont exemptés. »
And when a surah was revealed [enjoining them] to believe in Allah and to fight with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission [to stay back] and said, "Leave us to be with them who sit [at home]
At-Tawbah 9:87
رَضُواْ بِأَن يَكُونُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يَفۡقَهُونَ
Ils acceptent de rester à l’arrière avec les femmes et les enfants. Un sceau a été apposé sur leurs cœurs, les privant de tout entendement.
They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand
At-Tawbah 9:88
لَٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُۥ جَٰهَدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتُۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ
Quant au Messager et ses compagnons, ils n’ont pas hésité à sacrifier leurs biens et leurs vies. Voilà ceux qui seront comblés de faveurs. Voilà les bienheureux !
But the Messenger and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all that is] good, and it is those who are the successful
At-Tawbah 9:89
أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Allah leur a préparé des jardins traversés de rivières où ils demeureront pour l’éternité. Voilà le bonheur suprême.
Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally. That is the great attainment
At-Tawbah 9:90
وَجَآءَ ٱلۡمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ لِيُؤۡذَنَ لَهُمۡ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ سَيُصِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
Certains Bédouins sont venus te demander de les dispenser du combat, s’excusant de ne pouvoir y participer, tandis que d’autres, parmi ceux qui mentent à Allah et à Son Messager, ne se sont pas même déplacés pour s’en excuser. Ceux d’entre eux qui ont rejeté la foi subiront un douloureux châtiment.
And those with excuses among the bedouins came to be permitted [to remain], and they who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat [at home]. There will strike those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment
At-Tawbah 9:91
لَّيۡسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَآءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡمَرۡضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُواْ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۚ مَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ مِن سَبِيلٖۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
Les faibles, les malades et ceux qui n’ont pas les moyens de s’équiper ne commettent aucun péché en ne participant pas aux combats s’ils sont sincères envers Allah et Son Messager. Ceux qui ont de bonnes raisons de rester à l’arrière ne méritent donc aucune sanction. Allah est Très Clément et Très Miséricordieux.
There is not upon the weak or upon the ill or upon those who do not find anything to spend any discomfort when they are sincere to Allah and His Messenger. There is not upon the doers of good any cause [for blame]. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:92
وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا مَآ أَتَوۡكَ لِتَحۡمِلَهُمۡ قُلۡتَ لَآ أَجِدُ مَآ أَحۡمِلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ تَوَلَّواْ وَّأَعۡيُنُهُمۡ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمۡعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا يَجِدُواْ مَا يُنفِقُونَ
De même, n’ont commis aucun péché ceux qui sont venus te réclamer des montures et qui, lorsque tu leur as répondu : « Je ne trouve pas de montures à vous proposer », sont repartis les yeux débordant de larmes, tristes de ne pouvoir trouver de quoi s’équiper.
Nor [is there blame] upon those who, when they came to you that you might give them mounts, you said, "I can find nothing for you to ride upon." They turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find something to spend [for the cause of Allah]
At-Tawbah 9:93
۞إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡتَـٔۡذِنُونَكَ وَهُمۡ أَغۡنِيَآءُۚ رَضُواْ بِأَن يَكُونُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡخَوَالِفِ وَطَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
Seuls méritent d’être sanctionnés ceux qui, bien que riches, te demandent de les dispenser de combattre, acceptant de rester à l’arrière avec les femmes et les enfants. Allah a apposé un sceau sur leurs cœurs, si bien qu’ils ne sont pas conscients des conséquences de leurs actes.
The cause [for blame] is only upon those who ask permission of you while they are rich. They are satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and Allah has sealed over their hearts, so they do not know
At-Tawbah 9:94
يَعۡتَذِرُونَ إِلَيۡكُمۡ إِذَا رَجَعۡتُمۡ إِلَيۡهِمۡۚ قُل لَّا تَعۡتَذِرُواْ لَن نُّؤۡمِنَ لَكُمۡ قَدۡ نَبَّأَنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنۡ أَخۡبَارِكُمۡۚ وَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمۡ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
Ils se confondront en excuses à votre retour. Dis-leur : « Ne cherchez pas d’excuses. Nous ne vous croirons pas. Allah nous a dévoilé votre vrai visage. Allah et Son Messager verront bien quelle sera votre attitude. Vous serez ensuite ramenés à Celui qui connaît aussi bien ce que vous dissimulez que ce que vous laissez paraître, qui vous rappellera toutes vos œuvres. »
They will make excuses to you when you have returned to them. Say, "Make no excuse - never will we believe you. Allah has already informed us of your news. And Allah will observe your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger; then you will be taken back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do
At-Tawbah 9:95
سَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ إِذَا ٱنقَلَبۡتُمۡ إِلَيۡهِمۡ لِتُعۡرِضُواْ عَنۡهُمۡۖ فَأَعۡرِضُواْ عَنۡهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُمۡ رِجۡسٞۖ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ
Lorsque vous serez de retour auprès d’eux, ils jureront par Allah de leur bonne foi afin d’éviter vos reproches. Détournez-vous donc de ces êtres immondes qui, pour prix de leurs agissements, sont voués à la Géhenne.
They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them that you would leave them alone. So leave them alone; indeed they are evil; and their refuge is Hell as recompense for what they had been earning
At-Tawbah 9:96
يَحۡلِفُونَ لَكُمۡ لِتَرۡضَوۡاْ عَنۡهُمۡۖ فَإِن تَرۡضَوۡاْ عَنۡهُمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَرۡضَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
Ils vous font des serments afin de gagner vos bonnes grâces. Mais s’ils trouvent grâce à vos yeux, les hommes qui, comme eux, Lui refusent obéissance ne sauraient être en grâce auprès d’Allah.
They swear to you so that you might be satisfied with them. But if you should be satisfied with them - indeed, Allah is not satisfied with a defiantly disobedient people
At-Tawbah 9:97
ٱلۡأَعۡرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفۡرٗا وَنِفَاقٗا وَأَجۡدَرُ أَلَّا يَعۡلَمُواْ حُدُودَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
Les Bédouins sont plus marqués par l’impiété et l’hypocrisie que les citadins et plus enclins à ignorer les enseignements qu’Allah a révélés à Son Messager. Allah est Omniscient et infiniment Sage.
The bedouins are stronger in disbelief and hypocrisy and more likely not to know the limits of what [laws] Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:98
وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ مَغۡرَمٗا وَيَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ ٱلدَّوَآئِرَۚ عَلَيۡهِمۡ دَآئِرَةُ ٱلسَّوۡءِۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٞ
Certains Bédouins considèrent leurs dépenses pour la cause d’Allah comme une contribution versée en pure perte et attendent impatiemment que vous subissiez un revers. Puissent-ils subir tous les revers ! Allah entend tout et sait tout.
And among the bedouins are some who consider what they spend as a loss and await for you turns of misfortune. Upon them will be a misfortune of evil. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing
At-Tawbah 9:99
وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مَن يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِۚ أَلَآ إِنَّهَا قُرۡبَةٞ لَّهُمۡۚ سَيُدۡخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
Il se trouve aussi des Bédouins qui croient en Allah et au Jour dernier, et considèrent leurs dépenses pour la cause d’Allah comme un moyen de se rapprocher du Seigneur et de bénéficier des prières du Messager. Sûr moyen, il est vrai, de se rapprocher d’Allah qui les admettra dans Sa grâce. Allah, en vérité, est Très Clément et Très Miséricordieux.
But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they spend as means of nearness to Allah and of [obtaining] invocations of the Messenger. Unquestionably, it is a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:100
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحۡسَٰنٖ رَّضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي تَحۡتَهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Les tout premiers croyants parmi ceux qui ont émigré et ceux qui leur ont apporté leur soutien, ainsi que ceux qui ont fidèlement suivi leur voie, sont entièrement satisfaits d’Allah qui Lui-même est satisfait d’eux. Il leur a préparé des jardins traversés de rivières où ils demeureront à jamais. Voilà le bonheur suprême.
And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment
At-Tawbah 9:101
وَمِمَّنۡ حَوۡلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مُنَٰفِقُونَۖ وَمِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ مَرَدُواْ عَلَى ٱلنِّفَاقِ لَا تَعۡلَمُهُمۡۖ نَحۡنُ نَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَيۡنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٖ
Parmi les Bédouins qui vivent autour de vous et parmi les habitants de Médine se trouvent des hypocrites endurcis et impénitents. Contrairement à toi, Nous les connaissons parfaitement et allons les châtier par deux fois avant qu’ils ne soient livrés à d’affreux tourments.
And among those around you of the bedouins are hypocrites, and [also] from the people of Madinah. They have become accustomed to hypocrisy. You, [O Muhammad], do not know them, [but] We know them. We will punish them twice [in this world]; then they will be returned to a great punishment
At-Tawbah 9:102
وَءَاخَرُونَ ٱعۡتَرَفُواْ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ خَلَطُواْ عَمَلٗا صَٰلِحٗا وَءَاخَرَ سَيِّئًا عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ
D’autres ont confessé leurs péchés auxquels ils ont mêlé de bonnes œuvres. Allah, Très Clément et Très Miséricordieux, acceptera certainement leur repentir.
And [there are] others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:103
خُذۡ مِنۡ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ صَدَقَةٗ تُطَهِّرُهُمۡ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيۡهِمۡۖ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنٞ لَّهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
Prélève sur leurs biens une aumône propre à les purifier de leurs péchés et à les rendre plus vertueux, et prie pour eux, car tes prières leur apporteront quiétude et sérénité. Allah entend tout et sait tout.
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing
At-Tawbah 9:104
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ يَقۡبَلُ ٱلتَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَأۡخُذُ ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Ne savent-ils pas que c’est Allah seul qui accueille le repentir de Ses serviteurs et qui reçoit leurs aumônes ? Ne savent-ils pas que c’est Lui le Très Miséricordieux, Celui qui accepte toujours le repentir de Ses serviteurs ?
Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:105
وَقُلِ ٱعۡمَلُواْ فَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمۡ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَۖ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
Dis-leur : « Œuvrez ! Allah verra vos œuvres, de même que Son Messager et les croyants. Vous serez ensuite ramenés à Celui qui connaît aussi bien ce que vous dissimulez que ce que vous laissez paraître, qui vous rappellera toutes vos œuvres. »
And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do
At-Tawbah 9:106
وَءَاخَرُونَ مُرۡجَوۡنَ لِأَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِ إِمَّا يُعَذِّبُهُمۡ وَإِمَّا يَتُوبُ عَلَيۡهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
D’autres encore sont dans l’attente du jugement d’Allah qui, soit les châtiera, soit leur pardonnera. Allah est Omniscient et infiniment Sage.
And [there are] others deferred until the command of Allah - whether He will punish them or whether He will forgive them. And Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:107
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مَسۡجِدٗا ضِرَارٗا وَكُفۡرٗا وَتَفۡرِيقَۢا بَيۡنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَإِرۡصَادٗا لِّمَنۡ حَارَبَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُۚ وَلَيَحۡلِفُنَّ إِنۡ أَرَدۡنَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَشۡهَدُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
Certains, parmi les hypocrites, poussés par la malveillance et l’impiété, ont édifié une mosquée dans le but de semer la division parmi les croyants et d’offrir un repaire à celui qui avait déclaré la guerre à Allah et Son Messager. Ils viennent ensuite jurer de leurs bonnes intentions. Mais Allah atteste qu’ils ne font que mentir.
And [there are] those [hypocrites] who took for themselves a mosque for causing harm and disbelief and division among the believers and as a station for whoever had warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "We intended only the best." And Allah testifies that indeed they are liars
At-Tawbah 9:108
لَا تَقُمۡ فِيهِ أَبَدٗاۚ لَّمَسۡجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ مِنۡ أَوَّلِ يَوۡمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِيهِۚ فِيهِ رِجَالٞ يُحِبُّونَ أَن يَتَطَهَّرُواْۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُطَّهِّرِينَ
N’y accomplis jamais la prière ! Une mosquée fondée dès le premier jour sur la crainte d’Allah est plus digne que tu t’y tiennes. S’y trouvent des hommes qui aiment à se purifier. Or, Allah aime ceux qui veillent à leur pureté.
Do not stand [for prayer] within it - ever. A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in. Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves
At-Tawbah 9:109
أَفَمَنۡ أَسَّسَ بُنۡيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ تَقۡوَىٰ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَٰنٍ خَيۡرٌ أَم مَّنۡ أَسَّسَ بُنۡيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٖ فَٱنۡهَارَ بِهِۦ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
Celui qui a fondé son édifice sur la crainte d’Allah et le désir de plaire au Seigneur n’est-il pas meilleur que celui qui l’a établi au bord d’un précipice sur le point de s’écrouler et de l’entraîner dans le feu de la Géhenne ? Allah ne saurait guider les impies.
Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people
At-Tawbah 9:110
لَا يَزَالُ بُنۡيَٰنُهُمُ ٱلَّذِي بَنَوۡاْ رِيبَةٗ فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِلَّآ أَن تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
L’édifice qu’ils ont bâti ne cessera de conforter les doutes et l’hypocrisie qui rongent leurs cœurs tant qu’ils seront en vie. Allah est Omniscient et d’une sagesse infinie.
Their building which they built will not cease to be a [cause of] skepticism in their hearts until their hearts are stopped. And Allah is Knowing and Wise
At-Tawbah 9:111
۞إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱشۡتَرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَأَمۡوَٰلَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةَۚ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَقۡتُلُونَ وَيُقۡتَلُونَۖ وَعۡدًا عَلَيۡهِ حَقّٗا فِي ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ وَٱلۡإِنجِيلِ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ وَمَنۡ أَوۡفَىٰ بِعَهۡدِهِۦ مِنَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَٱسۡتَبۡشِرُواْ بِبَيۡعِكُمُ ٱلَّذِي بَايَعۡتُم بِهِۦۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
Allah a acheté aux croyants leurs vies et leurs biens en échange du Paradis. Ils luttent pour la cause d’Allah, tuant l’ennemi ou se faisant tuer par lui. Promesse qu’Allah, dans la Torah, l’Evangile et le Coran, s’est fait un devoir d’honorer. Or, qui est plus fidèle à Ses engagements qu’Allah ? Réjouissez-vous donc du marché, ô combien fructueux, que vous avez conclu avec Lui.
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment
At-Tawbah 9:112
ٱلتَّـٰٓئِبُونَ ٱلۡعَٰبِدُونَ ٱلۡحَٰمِدُونَ ٱلسَّـٰٓئِحُونَ ٱلرَّـٰكِعُونَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدُونَ ٱلۡأٓمِرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَٱلنَّاهُونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱلۡحَٰفِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Ces croyants ont à cœur de se repentir, vouent à Allah un culte exclusif et sincère, célèbrent sans cesse Ses louanges, luttent vaillamment pour Sa cause, jeûnent assidûment, s’inclinent et se prosternent en prière, incitent les autres à la vertu, condamnent le vice et observent scrupuleusement Ses commandements. Fais donc heureuse annonce aux croyants.
[Such believers are] the repentant, the worshippers, the praisers [of Allah], the travelers [for His cause], those who bow and prostrate [in prayer], those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and those who observe the limits [set by] Allah. And give good tidings to the believers
At-Tawbah 9:113
مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَن يَسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ وَلَوۡ كَانُوٓاْ أُوْلِي قُرۡبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
Il n’appartient ni au Prophète, ni aux croyants, d’implorer le pardon d’Allah en faveur des idolâtres, fussent-ils leurs proches parents, lorsqu’il leur est clairement apparu que ces derniers sont voués au brasier de l’Enfer.
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire
At-Tawbah 9:114
وَمَا كَانَ ٱسۡتِغۡفَارُ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوۡعِدَةٖ وَعَدَهَآ إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُۥٓ أَنَّهُۥ عَدُوّٞ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنۡهُۚ إِنَّ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ لَأَوَّـٰهٌ حَلِيمٞ
Abraham n’implora le pardon d’Allah en faveur de son père que pour honorer la promesse qu’il lui fit. Mais dès qu’il fut convaincu qu’il était l’ennemi d’Allah, il le désavoua. Abraham était plein d’humilité dans ses prières et de longanimité envers les hommes.
And the request of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to Abraham that his father was an enemy to Allah, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient
At-Tawbah 9:115
وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوۡمَۢا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يُبَيِّنَ لَهُم مَّا يَتَّقُونَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٌ
Il ne sied pas à Allah de laisser des croyants s’égarer après les avoir guidés, sans leur avoir clairement indiqué les péchés dont ils doivent se garder. Allah a une parfaite connaissance de toute chose.
And Allah would not let a people stray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them what they should avoid. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of all things
At-Tawbah 9:116
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۚ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٖ
Allah règne en Maître absolu sur les cieux et la terre. Il donne la vie et la mort. Vous n’avez d’autre soutien et protecteur que le Seigneur.
Indeed, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death. And you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper
At-Tawbah 9:117
لَّقَد تَّابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِيِّ وَٱلۡمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ فِي سَاعَةِ ٱلۡعُسۡرَةِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِهِمۡ رَءُوفٞ رَّحِيمٞ
Allah a accordé Son pardon au Prophète, aux émigrés et aux Ansars qui l’ont suivi aux heures les plus pénibles, lorsque les cœurs d’une partie d’entre eux furent sur le point de fléchir. Il a alors raffermi leurs cœurs. Il est, envers eux, infiniment Bon et Très Miséricordieux.
Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:118
وَعَلَى ٱلثَّلَٰثَةِ ٱلَّذِينَ خُلِّفُواْ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ضَاقَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَن لَّا مَلۡجَأَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّآ إِلَيۡهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ لِيَتُوبُوٓاْۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Il a également accueilli le repentir des trois hommes dont le cas fut laissé en suspens au point que la terre, pourtant si vaste, leur parut bien étroite et que, les cœurs oppressés par l’angoisse, ils comprirent qu’ils ne pouvaient échapper aux rigueurs d’Allah qu’en revenant à Lui. Allah, le Très Miséricordieux, Celui qui accepte toujours le repentir de Ses serviteurs, a donc raffermi leurs cœurs afin qu’ils reviennent à Lui.
And [He also forgave] the three who were left behind [and regretted their error] to the point that the earth closed in on them in spite of its vastness and their souls confined them and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah except in Him. Then He turned to them so they could repent. Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful
At-Tawbah 9:119
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُواْ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
Vous qui croyez ! Craignez Allah et comportez-vous en hommes véridiques et sincères !
O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true
At-Tawbah 9:120
مَا كَانَ لِأَهۡلِ ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ أَن يَتَخَلَّفُواْ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَرۡغَبُواْ بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ عَن نَّفۡسِهِۦۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ لَا يُصِيبُهُمۡ ظَمَأٞ وَلَا نَصَبٞ وَلَا مَخۡمَصَةٞ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَطَـُٔونَ مَوۡطِئٗا يَغِيظُ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنۡ عَدُوّٖ نَّيۡلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلٞ صَٰلِحٌۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
Il ne convient ni aux habitants de Médine, ni aux Bédouins qui les entourent, de faire défection au Messager d’Allah et de préférer leurs propres personnes à la sienne. Car ils n’endureront ni soif, ni fatigue, ni faim, en allant combattre pour la cause d’Allah, ne fouleront aucune terre, provoquant ainsi la fureur des impies, et n’infligeront aucun revers à l’ennemi, sans que cela ne soit porté à leur crédit. Allah ne laisse jamais se perdre la récompense des hommes de bien.
It was not [proper] for the people of Madinah and those surrounding them of the bedouins that they remain behind after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah or that they prefer themselves over his self. That is because they are not afflicted by thirst or fatigue or hunger in the cause of Allah, nor do they tread on any ground that enrages the disbelievers, nor do they inflict upon an enemy any infliction but that is registered for them as a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good
At-Tawbah 9:121
وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةٗ صَغِيرَةٗ وَلَا كَبِيرَةٗ وَلَا يَقۡطَعُونَ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمۡ لِيَجۡزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
Ils ne feront aucune dépense, aussi insignifiante soit-elle, pour la cause d’Allah, ne traverseront aucune vallée, sans que cela ne leur soit compté afin qu’Allah les récompense de la manière la plus généreuse pour leurs bonnes œuvres.
Nor do they spend an expenditure, small or large, or cross a valley but that it is registered for them that Allah may reward them for the best of what they were doing
At-Tawbah 9:122
۞وَمَا كَانَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُواْ كَآفَّةٗۚ فَلَوۡلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرۡقَةٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ طَآئِفَةٞ لِّيَتَفَقَّهُواْ فِي ٱلدِّينِ وَلِيُنذِرُواْ قَوۡمَهُمۡ إِذَا رَجَعُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَحۡذَرُونَ
Il n’est toutefois pas souhaitable que les croyants partent tous ensemble au combat. Si seulement, de chaque tribu ou de chaque pays, un groupe d’hommes se consacraient à l’étude de la religion afin de prêcher à leur retour les leurs qui pourraient ainsi se préserver du péché.
And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious
At-Tawbah 9:123
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قَٰتِلُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ وَلۡيَجِدُواْ فِيكُمۡ غِلۡظَةٗۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
Vous qui croyez ! Combattez d’abord les mécréants qui vous sont les plus proches géographiquement et qu’ils trouvent en vous de farouches combattants. Sachez qu’Allah est avec les pieux croyants.
O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness. And know that Allah is with the righteous
At-Tawbah 9:124
وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةٞ فَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَقُولُ أَيُّكُمۡ زَادَتۡهُ هَٰذِهِۦٓ إِيمَٰنٗاۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ فَزَادَتۡهُمۡ إِيمَٰنٗا وَهُمۡ يَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ
Lorsqu’une sourate est révélée, certains parmi les hypocrites s’interrogent par moquerie : « Qui de vous a été raffermi dans sa foi par cette sourate ? » Ceux qui croient sont assurément raffermis dans leur foi à l’écoute de cette sourate qui les remplit de joie.
And whenever a surah is revealed, there are among the hypocrites those who say, "Which of you has this increased faith?" As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, while they are rejoicing
At-Tawbah 9:125
وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ فَزَادَتۡهُمۡ رِجۡسًا إِلَىٰ رِجۡسِهِمۡ وَمَاتُواْ وَهُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ
Quant à ceux dont les cœurs sont malades, cette sourate ne fait qu’ajouter à leur incrédulité, si bien qu’ils finissent par mourir dans l’impiété.
But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has [only] increased them in evil [in addition] to their evil. And they will have died while they are disbelievers
At-Tawbah 9:126
أَوَلَا يَرَوۡنَ أَنَّهُمۡ يُفۡتَنُونَ فِي كُلِّ عَامٖ مَّرَّةً أَوۡ مَرَّتَيۡنِ ثُمَّ لَا يَتُوبُونَ وَلَا هُمۡ يَذَّكَّرُونَ
Ne voient-ils donc pas qu’ils sont éprouvés une ou deux fois chaque année ? Ils ne sont pourtant pas disposés à se repentir et à en tirer des leçons.
Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice but then they do not repent nor do they remember
At-Tawbah 9:127
وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةٞ نَّظَرَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ هَلۡ يَرَىٰكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٖ ثُمَّ ٱنصَرَفُواْۚ صَرَفَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ لَّا يَفۡقَهُونَ
Lorsqu’une sourate est révélée, les uns regardent les autres en se disant : « Quelqu’un nous observe-t-il ? » Ils se dérobent alors discrètement. Allah, en effet, a détourné de la foi les cœurs de ces hommes si peu disposés à comprendre.
And whenever a surah is revealed, they look at each other, [saying], "Does anyone see you?" and then they dismiss themselves. Allah has dismissed their hearts because they are a people who do not understand
At-Tawbah 9:128
لَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولٞ مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيۡهِ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيۡكُم بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ رَءُوفٞ رَّحِيمٞ
Voilà que vous est venu un Messager issu de vous, à la fois sensible à vos souffrances, désireux de vous voir embrasser la foi et plein de compassion et de miséricorde envers les croyants.
There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful
At-Tawbah 9:129
فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُلۡ حَسۡبِيَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
S’ils persistent à se détourner, dis-leur : « Allah me suffit ! Il n’est de divinité digne d’être adorée que Lui. C’est à Lui que je m’en remets entièrement. Il est le Maître du Trône glorieux. »
But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne
