Le peuple de Saba, Dawud et Sulayman — la gratitude et le déni.
Saba 34:1
ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٱلۡخَبِيرُ
Louange à Allah à qui appartient tout ce qui se trouve dans les cieux et sur la terre et qui, dans l’au-delà, sera seul digne d’être loué par Ses serviteurs. Il est l’infiniment Sage, Celui qui connaît les réalités les mieux cachées.
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and to Him belongs [all] praise in the Hereafter. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted
Saba 34:2
يَعۡلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهَا وَمَا يَنزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا يَعۡرُجُ فِيهَاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٱلۡغَفُورُ
Il sait ce qui pénètre dans la terre et ce qui en sort, ce qui descend du ciel et ce qui y monte. Il est le Très Miséricordieux, le Très Clément.
He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein. And He is the Merciful, the Forgiving
Saba 34:3
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَا تَأۡتِينَا ٱلسَّاعَةُۖ قُلۡ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّي لَتَأۡتِيَنَّكُمۡ عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِۖ لَا يَعۡزُبُ عَنۡهُ مِثۡقَالُ ذَرَّةٖ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَآ أَصۡغَرُ مِن ذَٰلِكَ وَلَآ أَكۡبَرُ إِلَّا فِي كِتَٰبٖ مُّبِينٖ
Ceux qui ont rejeté la foi affirment : « L’Heure ne sonnera pas ! » Réponds-leur : « Au contraire, elle sonnera ! J’en jure par mon Seigneur. » Il connaît les mystères de l’univers et rien ne Lui échappe dans les cieux et sur la terre, pas même l’équivalent d’un grain de poussière, ni même quelque chose d’inférieur. Il n’est rien qui ne soit consigné dans un livre parfaitement clair.
But those who disbelieve say, "The Hour will not come to us." Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you. [Allah is] the Knower of the unseen." Not absent from Him is an atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register
Saba 34:4
لِّيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةٞ وَرِزۡقٞ كَرِيمٞ
Ceux qui auront cru et accompli de bonnes œuvres seront ainsi récompensés et obtiendront Son pardon et un don généreux,
That He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds. Those will have forgiveness and noble provision
Saba 34:5
وَٱلَّذِينَ سَعَوۡ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مِّن رِّجۡزٍ أَلِيمٞ
tandis que ceux qui s’emploient à réfuter Nos versets, persuadés de pouvoir Nous échapper, subiront le châtiment le plus affreux et le plus douloureux.
But those who strive against Our verses [seeking] to cause failure - for them will be a painful punishment of foul nature
Saba 34:6
وَيَرَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَيَهۡدِيٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ
Ceux qui ont reçu la science sauront ainsi que ce qui t’est révélé de la part de ton Seigneur est un message de vérité qui indique aux hommes la voie du Tout-Puissant, de Celui qui est digne de toutes les louanges.
And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, and it guides to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy
Saba 34:7
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ هَلۡ نَدُلُّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٖ يُنَبِّئُكُمۡ إِذَا مُزِّقۡتُمۡ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍ إِنَّكُمۡ لَفِي خَلۡقٖ جَدِيدٍ
Les impies disent par moquerie : « Voulez-vous que nous vous indiquions un homme qui vous annonce que, une fois vos corps entièrement décomposés, vous serez rendus à la vie ?
But those who disbelieve say, "Shall we direct you to a man who will inform you [that] when you have disintegrated in complete disintegration, you will [then] be [recreated] in a new creation
Saba 34:8
أَفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَم بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۗ بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ وَٱلضَّلَٰلِ ٱلۡبَعِيدِ
Forge-t-il des mensonges en les attribuant à Allah ou est-il simplement possédé ? » Non, mais ceux qui ne croient pas en l’au-delà sont voués au châtiment pour s’être éloignés de la vérité.
Has he invented about Allah a lie or is there in him madness?" Rather, they who do not believe in the Hereafter will be in the punishment and [are in] extreme error
Saba 34:9
أَفَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِن نَّشَأۡ نَخۡسِفۡ بِهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَوۡ نُسۡقِطۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ كِسَفٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ لِّكُلِّ عَبۡدٖ مُّنِيبٖ
Ne voient-ils pas le ciel et la terre s’étendre devant et derrière eux ? Si Nous le voulions, Nous les ferions engloutir par la terre ou ferions tomber le ciel sur eux par pans entiers. Voilà assurément un signe pour tout serviteur enclin au repentir et disposé à réfléchir.
Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or [could] let fall upon them fragments from the sky. Indeed in that is a sign for every servant turning back [to Allah]
Saba 34:10
۞وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا دَاوُۥدَ مِنَّا فَضۡلٗاۖ يَٰجِبَالُ أَوِّبِي مَعَهُۥ وَٱلطَّيۡرَۖ وَأَلَنَّا لَهُ ٱلۡحَدِيدَ
Nous avons comblé David de Nos faveurs. Nous avons dicté aux montagnes et aux oiseaux de faire écho à ses cantiques et avons rendu le fer malléable entre ses mains,
And We certainly gave David from Us bounty. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]." And We made pliable for him iron
Saba 34:11
أَنِ ٱعۡمَلۡ سَٰبِغَٰتٖ وَقَدِّرۡ فِي ٱلسَّرۡدِۖ وَٱعۡمَلُواْ صَٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٞ
lui inspirant d’en faire de larges cottes de mailles aux anneaux bien ajustés. « Accomplissez de bonnes œuvres. Je vois parfaitement ce que vous faites ! »
[Commanding him], "Make full coats of mail and calculate [precisely] the links, and work [all of you] righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Seeing
Saba 34:12
وَلِسُلَيۡمَٰنَ ٱلرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهۡرٞ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهۡرٞۖ وَأَسَلۡنَا لَهُۥ عَيۡنَ ٱلۡقِطۡرِۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ مَن يَعۡمَلُ بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡهِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَمَن يَزِغۡ مِنۡهُمۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِنَا نُذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ
A Salomon, Nous avons soumis le vent qui parcourait le matin la distance d’un mois de marche et une distance équivalente le soir, et Nous avons fait couler pour lui le cuivre fondu. Certains djinns étaient, sur Notre ordre, à son service. Quant à ceux, parmi eux, qui enfreignaient Nos commandements, ils sont voués au châtiment du Brasier.
And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, and We made flow for him a spring of [liquid] copper. And among the jinn were those who worked for him by the permission of his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our command - We will make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze
Saba 34:13
يَعۡمَلُونَ لَهُۥ مَا يَشَآءُ مِن مَّحَٰرِيبَ وَتَمَٰثِيلَ وَجِفَانٖ كَٱلۡجَوَابِ وَقُدُورٖ رَّاسِيَٰتٍۚ ٱعۡمَلُوٓاْ ءَالَ دَاوُۥدَ شُكۡرٗاۚ وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنۡ عِبَادِيَ ٱلشَّكُورُ
Ils exécutaient, sur ses ordres, toutes sortes d’ouvrages : hautes constructions, diverses statues, plateaux larges comme des bassins et chaudrons trop grands pour être déplacés. « Accomplissez de bonnes œuvres en signe de gratitude, famille de David ! » Mais bien peu de Mes serviteurs se montrent réellement reconnaissants.
They made for him what he willed of elevated chambers, statues, bowls like reservoirs, and stationary kettles. [We said], "Work, O family of David, in gratitude." And few of My servants are grateful
Saba 34:14
فَلَمَّا قَضَيۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ مَا دَلَّهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَوۡتِهِۦٓ إِلَّا دَآبَّةُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَأۡكُلُ مِنسَأَتَهُۥۖ فَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَيَّنَتِ ٱلۡجِنُّ أَن لَّوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡغَيۡبَ مَا لَبِثُواْ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِينِ
Lorsque Nous eûmes décrété sa mort, les djinns ne s’en aperçurent que lorsque des termites eurent rongé le sceptre sur lequel il était appuyé. Le voyant s’écrouler à terre, les djinns surent que s’ils avaient réellement eu connaissance des mystères, ils n’auraient pas continué à exécuter des travaux si humiliants.
And when We decreed for Solomon death, nothing indicated to the jinn his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff. But when he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating punishment
Saba 34:15
لَقَدۡ كَانَ لِسَبَإٖ فِي مَسۡكَنِهِمۡ ءَايَةٞۖ جَنَّتَانِ عَن يَمِينٖ وَشِمَالٖۖ كُلُواْ مِن رِّزۡقِ رَبِّكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُواْ لَهُۥۚ بَلۡدَةٞ طَيِّبَةٞ وَرَبٌّ غَفُورٞ
Il y avait assurément dans le pays de Saba, où s’étendaient deux champs, l’un sur la droite, l’autre sur la gauche, un signe pour ses habitants. « Nourrissez-vous de ce que votre Seigneur vous a dispensé en vous montrant reconnaissants. Votre terre est si généreuse et votre Seigneur si clément ! »
There was for [the tribe of] Saba' in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord
Saba 34:16
فَأَعۡرَضُواْ فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَيۡلَ ٱلۡعَرِمِ وَبَدَّلۡنَٰهُم بِجَنَّتَيۡهِمۡ جَنَّتَيۡنِ ذَوَاتَيۡ أُكُلٍ خَمۡطٖ وَأَثۡلٖ وَشَيۡءٖ مِّن سِدۡرٖ قَلِيلٖ
Mais pour prix de leur ingratitude, Nous avons laissé se déverser sur eux les flots de la digue rompue, transformant leurs champs en deux terres n’offrant plus que des arbres aux fruits amers, des tamaris et de rares jujubiers.
But they turned away [refusing], so We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse lote trees
Saba 34:17
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيۡنَٰهُم بِمَا كَفَرُواْۖ وَهَلۡ نُجَٰزِيٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡكَفُورَ
C’est ainsi que Nous les avons rétribués pour leur impiété. Qui d’autre que les impies saurions-Nous ainsi rétribuer ?
[By] that We repaid them because they disbelieved. And do We [thus] repay except the ungrateful
Saba 34:18
وَجَعَلۡنَا بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡقُرَى ٱلَّتِي بَٰرَكۡنَا فِيهَا قُرٗى ظَٰهِرَةٗ وَقَدَّرۡنَا فِيهَا ٱلسَّيۡرَۖ سِيرُواْ فِيهَا لَيَالِيَ وَأَيَّامًا ءَامِنِينَ
Entre leur pays et les cités que Nous avons bénies, Nous avions établi des villes d’étapes proches les unes des autres, disant : « Voyagez entre ces villes, de jour comme de nuit, en toute sécurité. »
And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed [many] visible cities. And We determined between them the [distances of] journey, [saying], "Travel between them by night or day in safety
Saba 34:19
فَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا بَٰعِدۡ بَيۡنَ أَسۡفَارِنَا وَظَلَمُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ أَحَادِيثَ وَمَزَّقۡنَٰهُمۡ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٖ شَكُورٖ
Mais, injustes envers eux-mêmes, ils dirent : « Fais, Seigneur, que nos étapes soient plus longues. » Nous les avons donc dispersés aux quatre vents, ne laissant d’eux que le récit de leur sinistre fin. Voilà une leçon pour quiconque se montre plein de constance et de reconnaissance.
But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful
Saba 34:20
وَلَقَدۡ صَدَّقَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ إِبۡلِيسُ ظَنَّهُۥ فَٱتَّبَعُوهُ إِلَّا فَرِيقٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Satan a très certainement réalisé son dessein à leur sujet, tous l’ont suivi aveuglément à l’exception d’un groupe de croyants.
And Iblees had already confirmed through them his assumption, so they followed him, except for a party of believers
Saba 34:21
وَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِم مِّن سُلۡطَٰنٍ إِلَّا لِنَعۡلَمَ مَن يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِمَّنۡ هُوَ مِنۡهَا فِي شَكّٖۗ وَرَبُّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٍ حَفِيظٞ
Il n’avait pourtant aucun pouvoir sur eux, mais Nous voulions distinguer ceux qui avaient foi en l’au-delà de ceux que la vie après la mort laissait sceptiques. Ton Seigneur veille à toute chose.
And he had over them no authority except [it was decreed] that We might make evident who believes in the Hereafter from who is thereof in doubt. And your Lord, over all things, is Guardian
Saba 34:22
قُلِ ٱدۡعُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمۡتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا لَهُمۡ فِيهِمَا مِن شِرۡكٖ وَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡهُم مِّن ظَهِيرٖ
Dis : « Invoquez donc ces faux dieux qui, selon vos prétentions, sont dignes d’adoration au même titre qu’Allah. Mais sachez qu’ils ne détiennent absolument aucun pouvoir dans les cieux et sur la terre, à la création et à la direction desquels ils n’ont pas même été associés et pour lesquelles Il n’a nullement besoin de leur soutien. »
Say, [O Muhammad], "Invoke those you claim [as deities] besides Allah." They do not possess an atom's weight [of ability] in the heavens or on the earth, and they do not have therein any partnership [with Him], nor is there for Him from among them any assistant
Saba 34:23
وَلَا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَٰعَةُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِمَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُۥۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُزِّعَ عَن قُلُوبِهِمۡ قَالُواْ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمۡۖ قَالُواْ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيُّ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ
En outre, leur intercession ne saurait être acceptée sans Sa permission. Aussi, lorsque leur frayeur se sera dissipée, ils demanderont : « Qu’a dit votre Seigneur ? » Il leur sera répondu : « Il a dit la vérité, Lui le Très Haut, le Très Grand ! »
And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the Grand
Saba 34:24
۞قُلۡ مَن يَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۖ وَإِنَّآ أَوۡ إِيَّاكُمۡ لَعَلَىٰ هُدًى أَوۡ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ
Demande-leur : « Qui vous dispense les bienfaits des cieux et de la terre ? » Réponds : « C’est Allah. » Dis-leur alors : « L’un des deux groupes, le vôtre ou le nôtre, suit donc forcément le droit chemin, tandis que l’autre est manifestement égaré. »
Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?" Say, "Allah. And indeed, we or you are either upon guidance or in clear error
Saba 34:25
قُل لَّا تُسۡـَٔلُونَ عَمَّآ أَجۡرَمۡنَا وَلَا نُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا تَعۡمَلُونَ
Dis-leur : « Vous n’aurez pas à répondre de nos œuvres, tout comme nous n’aurons pas à répondre de vos agissements. »
Say, "You will not be asked about what we committed, and we will not be asked about what you do
Saba 34:26
قُلۡ يَجۡمَعُ بَيۡنَنَا رَبُّنَا ثُمَّ يَفۡتَحُ بَيۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُوَ ٱلۡفَتَّاحُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
Dis-leur encore : « Notre Seigneur nous rassemblera, puis tranchera en toute équité nos différends, Lui le Juge Suprême, l’Omniscient. »
Say, "Our Lord will bring us together; then He will judge between us in truth. And He is the Knowing Judge
Saba 34:27
قُلۡ أَرُونِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَلۡحَقۡتُم بِهِۦ شُرَكَآءَۖ كَلَّاۚ بَلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ
Dis : « Montrez-moi ces fausses divinités que vous associez à Son culte. Non, Allah seul est en droit d’être adoré, Lui le Tout-Puissant, l’infiniment Sage. »
Say, "Show me those whom you have attached to Him as partners. No! Rather, He [alone] is Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise
Saba 34:28
وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا كَآفَّةٗ لِّلنَّاسِ بَشِيرٗا وَنَذِيرٗا وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
Nous ne t’avons envoyé à l’ensemble de l’humanité que pour annoncer la bonne nouvelle et mettre en garde les hommes, mais la plupart d’entre eux n’en sont pas conscients.
And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know
Saba 34:29
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
Ils demandent : « Quand donc se réalisera cette menace, si vous dites la vérité ? »
And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful
Saba 34:30
قُل لَّكُم مِّيعَادُ يَوۡمٖ لَّا تَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ عَنۡهُ سَاعَةٗ وَلَا تَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ
Réponds : « Vous est fixé un rendez-vous que vous ne saurez ni reculer un seul instant, ni avancer. »
Say, "For you is the appointment of a Day [when] you will not remain thereafter an hour, nor will you precede [it]
Saba 34:31
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَن نُّؤۡمِنَ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَلَا بِٱلَّذِي بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡهِۗ وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ مَوۡقُوفُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ يَرۡجِعُ بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ لَوۡلَآ أَنتُمۡ لَكُنَّا مُؤۡمِنِينَ
Les mécréants affirment : « Nous ne croirons jamais au Coran, ni aux Ecritures qui l’ont précédé. » Si tu pouvais voir les impies comparaître devant leur Seigneur, les uns accablant les autres de reproches. Ceux qui vécurent sous la domination de leurs chefs diront à ces derniers : « Sans vous, nous aurions été croyants ! »
And those who disbelieve say, "We will never believe in this Qur'an nor in that before it." But if you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord, refuting each other's words... Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "If not for you, we would have been believers
Saba 34:32
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوٓاْ أَنَحۡنُ صَدَدۡنَٰكُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ جَآءَكُمۖ بَلۡ كُنتُم مُّجۡرِمِينَ
Leurs chefs répliqueront : « Est-ce nous qui vous avons empêchés de suivre la bonne direction qui vous avait été indiquée ? Non, vous avez vous-mêmes agi en criminels ! »
Those who were arrogant will say to those who were oppressed, "Did we avert you from guidance after it had come to you? Rather, you were criminals
Saba 34:33
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ بَلۡ مَكۡرُ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذۡ تَأۡمُرُونَنَآ أَن نَّكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَنَجۡعَلَ لَهُۥٓ أَندَادٗاۚ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَۚ وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡأَغۡلَٰلَ فِيٓ أَعۡنَاقِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْۖ هَلۡ يُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
Ceux qui ont vécu sous leur domination rétorqueront : « Ce sont, au contraire, vos manœuvres incessantes qui nous ont perdus, lorsque vous nous poussiez à ne pas croire en Allah et à Lui associer de fausses divinités. » A la vue du châtiment, les uns et les autres tenteront de dissimuler leurs regrets. Nous mettrons des carcans aux cous des mécréants. Recevront-ils une autre rétribution que celle, méritée, de leurs œuvres ?
Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "Rather, [it was your] conspiracy of night and day when you were ordering us to disbelieve in Allah and attribute to Him equals." But they will [all] confide regret when they see the punishment; and We will put shackles on the necks of those who disbelieved. Will they be recompensed except for what they used to do
Saba 34:34
وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِي قَرۡيَةٖ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتۡرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ
Nous n’avons envoyé nul Messager avertir une cité sans que ses habitants les plus puissants n’aient affirmé : « Nous ne croyons pas en votre message. »
And We did not send into a city any warner except that its affluent said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers
Saba 34:35
وَقَالُواْ نَحۡنُ أَكۡثَرُ أَمۡوَٰلٗا وَأَوۡلَٰدٗا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
Ils disent : « Nous avons davantage de richesses et d’enfants. Nous ne saurions être châtiés. »
And they said, "We are more [than the believers] in wealth and children, and we are not to be punished
Saba 34:36
قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّي يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقۡدِرُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
Dis-leur : « Mon Seigneur dispense Ses faveurs à qui Il veut, comblant certains de Ses serviteurs, accordant aux autres avec mesure, mais la plupart des hommes n’en sont pas conscients. »
Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it], but most of the people do not know
Saba 34:37
وَمَآ أَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ وَلَآ أَوۡلَٰدُكُم بِٱلَّتِي تُقَرِّبُكُمۡ عِندَنَا زُلۡفَىٰٓ إِلَّا مَنۡ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحٗا فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ جَزَآءُ ٱلضِّعۡفِ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡغُرُفَٰتِ ءَامِنُونَ
Ce ne sont ni vos richesses, ni vos enfants, qui pourront vous rapprocher de Nous. Seuls ceux qui auront cru et accompli de bonnes œuvres verront leur récompense décuplée et vivront en toute sécurité dans les hauts lieux du Paradis.
And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, but it is [by being] one who has believed and done righteousness. For them there will be the double reward for what they did, and they will be in the upper chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure]
Saba 34:38
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡعَوۡنَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُحۡضَرُونَ
Quant à ceux qui, persuadés de pouvoir Nous échapper, s’emploient à réfuter Nos versets, ils seront livrés au châtiment.
And the ones who strive against Our verses to cause [them] failure - those will be brought into the punishment [to remain]
Saba 34:39
قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّي يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقۡدِرُ لَهُۥۚ وَمَآ أَنفَقۡتُم مِّن شَيۡءٖ فَهُوَ يُخۡلِفُهُۥۖ وَهُوَ خَيۡرُ ٱلرَّـٰزِقِينَ
Dis : « Mon Seigneur dispense Ses faveurs à qui Il veut parmi Ses serviteurs, comblant certaines de Ses créatures, accordant aux autres avec mesure. Tout don que vous ferez par charité vous sera remplacé par votre Seigneur, le plus généreux des pourvoyeurs. »
Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts [it] for him. But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] - He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers
Saba 34:40
وَيَوۡمَ يَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِيعٗا ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لِلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِيَّاكُمۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ
Le Jour où Il les aura tous rassemblés, Allah dira aux anges : « Est-ce vous que ces gens adoraient ? »
And [mention] the Day when He will gather them all and then say to the angels, "Did these [people] used to worship you
Saba 34:41
قَالُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَكَ أَنتَ وَلِيُّنَا مِن دُونِهِمۖ بَلۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ ٱلۡجِنَّۖ أَكۡثَرُهُم بِهِم مُّؤۡمِنُونَ
Les anges répondront : « Gloire à Toi ! Nous les désavouons devant Toi, Tu es notre seul Maître. Ils adoraient en réalité les démons en qui la plupart d’entre eux croyaient. »
They will say, "Exalted are You! You, [O Allah], are our benefactor not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn; most of them were believers in them
Saba 34:42
فَٱلۡيَوۡمَ لَا يَمۡلِكُ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٖ نَّفۡعٗا وَلَا ضَرّٗا وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ ذُوقُواْ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ٱلَّتِي كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
Ce Jour-là, les uns ne pourront être utiles aux autres, ni leur nuire. Nous dirons aux impies : « Goûtez le châtiment du Feu que vous traitiez de mensonge ! »
But today you do not hold for one another [the power of] benefit or harm, and We will say to those who wronged, "Taste the punishment of the Fire, which you used to deny
Saba 34:43
وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٖ قَالُواْ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا رَجُلٞ يُرِيدُ أَن يَصُدَّكُمۡ عَمَّا كَانَ يَعۡبُدُ ءَابَآؤُكُمۡ وَقَالُواْ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفۡكٞ مُّفۡتَرٗىۚ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمۡ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ مُّبِينٞ
Lorsque Nos versets, parfaitement clairs, leur sont récités, ils disent : « Ce n’est qu’un homme qui cherche à nous détourner du culte de nos pères. » Et ils disent : « Ce n’est là qu’un tissu de mensonges forgés par lui. » De la vérité qui leur a été apportée, les impies disent : « Ce n’est là, de toute évidence, que pure magie. »
And when our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, "This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping." And they say, "This is not except a lie invented." And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is not but obvious magic
Saba 34:44
وَمَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم مِّن كُتُبٖ يَدۡرُسُونَهَاۖ وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡهِمۡ قَبۡلَكَ مِن نَّذِيرٖ
Nous ne leur avons pourtant donné aucun livre qu’ils auraient pu lire et ne leur avons envoyé avant toi nul prophète pour les avertir.
And We had not given them any scriptures which they could study, and We had not sent to them before you, [O Muhammad], any warner
Saba 34:45
وَكَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ وَمَا بَلَغُواْ مِعۡشَارَ مَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ فَكَذَّبُواْ رُسُلِيۖ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ
Les peuples qui les ont précédés avaient déjà traité Mes Messagers d’imposteurs. Je les ai alors saisis, manifestant ainsi Mon immense réprobation. Or, ces païens n’ont pas même atteint le dixième de la puissance dont Nous avons doté leurs devanciers.
And those before them denied, and the people of Makkah have not attained a tenth of what We had given them. But the former peoples denied My messengers, so how [terrible] was My reproach
Saba 34:46
۞قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أَعِظُكُم بِوَٰحِدَةٍۖ أَن تَقُومُواْ لِلَّهِ مَثۡنَىٰ وَفُرَٰدَىٰ ثُمَّ تَتَفَكَّرُواْۚ مَا بِصَاحِبِكُم مِّن جِنَّةٍۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٞ لَّكُم بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡ عَذَابٖ شَدِيدٖ
Dis : « Je vous exhorte simplement à agir ainsi : levez-vous pour Allah en toute sincérité, à deux ou séparément, et réfléchissez. Vous saurez alors que votre compagnon n’est nullement possédé, mais qu’il est simplement chargé de vous mettre en garde contre le terrible châtiment qui vous attend. »
Say, "I only advise you of one [thing] - that you stand for Allah, [seeking truth] in pairs and individually, and then give thought." There is not in your companion any madness. He is only a warner to you before a severe punishment
Saba 34:47
قُلۡ مَا سَأَلۡتُكُم مِّنۡ أَجۡرٖ فَهُوَ لَكُمۡۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٞ
Dis : « Je n’ai que faire du salaire que je pourrais vous réclamer, je vous le laisse. Mon salaire n’incombe qu’à Allah qui est témoin de toute chose. »
Say, "Whatever payment I might have asked of you - it is yours. My payment is only from Allah, and He is, over all things, Witness
Saba 34:48
قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّي يَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلۡغُيُوبِ
Dis : « Mon Seigneur, qui connaît parfaitement tous les mystères, expose clairement la vérité. »
Say, "Indeed, my Lord projects the truth. Knower of the unseen
Saba 34:49
قُلۡ جَآءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَمَا يُبۡدِئُ ٱلۡبَٰطِلُ وَمَا يُعِيدُ
Dis encore : « La vérité a donc éclaté, faisant totalement disparaître le faux. »
Say, "The truth has come, and falsehood can neither begin [anything] nor repeat [it]
Saba 34:50
قُلۡ إِن ضَلَلۡتُ فَإِنَّمَآ أَضِلُّ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِيۖ وَإِنِ ٱهۡتَدَيۡتُ فَبِمَا يُوحِيٓ إِلَيَّ رَبِّيٓۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِيعٞ قَرِيبٞ
Dis : « Si je suis dans l’erreur, j’en subirai seul les conséquences. Et si je prends le droit chemin, c’est uniquement grâce à ce qui m’est révélé par mon Seigneur qui entend tout et qui est proche. »
Say, "If I should err, I would only err against myself. But if I am guided, it is by what my Lord reveals to me. Indeed, He is Hearing and near
Saba 34:51
وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰٓ إِذۡ فَزِعُواْ فَلَا فَوۡتَ وَأُخِذُواْ مِن مَّكَانٖ قَرِيبٖ
Si tu pouvais voir les impies, terrorisés et saisis de très près sans pouvoir s’échapper.
And if you could see when they are terrified but there is no escape, and they will be seized from a place nearby
Saba 34:52
وَقَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلتَّنَاوُشُ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِيدٖ
Ils diront alors : « Nous avons la foi ! » Mais comment pourraient-ils atteindre la foi d’un lieu si éloigné,
And they will [then] say, "We believe in it!" But how for them will be the taking [of faith] from a place far away
Saba 34:53
وَقَدۡ كَفَرُواْ بِهِۦ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَيَقۡذِفُونَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِيدٖ
alors qu’ils l’avaient auparavant reniée, avançant les plus extravagantes suppositions.
And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place far away
Saba 34:54
وَحِيلَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَبَيۡنَ مَا يَشۡتَهُونَ كَمَا فُعِلَ بِأَشۡيَاعِهِم مِّن قَبۡلُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ فِي شَكّٖ مُّرِيبِۭ
Ils seront alors séparés de l’objet de leur désir, à l’image de leurs semblables avant eux qui, sur terre, furent remplis de doutes au sujet de la Résurrection.
And prevention will be placed between them and what they desire, as was done with their kind before. Indeed, they were in disquieting denial
