Soera Al-Balad (90) — De Stad · البلد
Mekkaanse soera, 20 verzen, als 35e geopenbaard.
De stad Mekka en het steile pad: de slaaf bevrijden, de hongerige voeden.
Al-Balad 90:1
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
Ik zweer bij deze stad.
I swear by this city, Makkah
Al-Balad 90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
En jij bent vrij in deze stad.
And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city
Al-Balad 90:3
وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ
En bij de verwekker en wat hij verwekt heeft.
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]
Al-Balad 90:4
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ
Waarlijk, Wij hebben de mens geschapen om te zwoegen.
We have certainly created man into hardship
Al-Balad 90:5
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ
Denkt hij dat niemand hem kan overmeesteren?
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him
Al-Balad 90:6
يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا
Hij zegt: “Ik heb welvaart in overvloed verspild.”
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance
Al-Balad 90:7
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Denkt hij dat niemand hem ziet?
Does he think that no one has seen him
Al-Balad 90:8
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ
Hebben Wij voor hem geen paar ogen gemaakt?
Have We not made for him two eyes
Al-Balad 90:9
وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ
En een tong en een paar lippen?
And a tongue and two lips
Al-Balad 90:10
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ
En hem twee wegen laten zien (goed en slecht)?
And have shown him the two ways
Al-Balad 90:11
فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ
Maar hij heeft zich geen moeite getroffen om het steile pad te begaan (goede daden).
But he has not broken through the difficult pass
Al-Balad 90:12
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ
En wat laat jullie weten wat een steil pad is?
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass
Al-Balad 90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
(Dat is) het bevrijden van een slaaf.
It is the freeing of a slave
Al-Balad 90:14
أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ
Of het geven van voedsel op een hongerige dag.
Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
Al-Balad 90:15
يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ
Aan een verwante wees.
An orphan of near relationship
Al-Balad 90:16
أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ
Of een arme die door de ellende getroffen is.
Or a needy person in misery
Al-Balad 90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ
En behoorde hij vervolgens tot degene die geloofden en elkaar tot geduld aanspoorden en elkaar tot genade aandspoorden.
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion
Al-Balad 90:18
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
Zij zijn degenen aan de rechterzijde.
Those are the companions of the right
Al-Balad 90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
Maar degenen die niet in Onze tekenen geloven, zijn degenen aan de linkerzijde.
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left
Al-Balad 90:20
عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ
Het vuur zal hun insluiten.
Over them will be fire closed in
