Coran 19:81 — sourate Maryam, verset 81

وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةٗ لِّيَكُونُواْ لَهُمۡ عِزّٗا

Les païens vouent un culte à d’autres divinités qu’Allah dans l’espoir de bénéficier de leur soutien.

And they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor

• Hilali & Khan: And they have taken (for worship) âlihah (gods) besides Allâh, that they might give them honour, power and glory (and also protect them from Allâh’s punishment).
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): They have taken gods other than Allah, in order that they may protect them [from punishment].
