Koran 58:16 — soera Al-Mujadila, vers 16

ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ جُنَّةٗ فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ

Zij hebben hun eden tot een scherm gemaakt. Zo hinderen zij (de mensen) op het pad van Allah, dus zullen zij een vernederende bestraffing hebben.

They took their [false] oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allah, and for them is a humiliating punishment

• Hilali & Khan: They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allâh: so they shall have a humiliating torment.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): They have taken their oaths as a shield, in order to hinder people from the way of Allah. For them there will be a humiliating punishment.
