Koran 29:53 — soera Al-'Ankabut, vers 53

وَيَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَكَ بِٱلۡعَذَابِ وَلَوۡلَآ أَجَلٞ مُّسَمّٗى لَّجَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ وَلَيَأۡتِيَنَّهُم بَغۡتَةٗ وَهُمۡ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ

En zij vragen jou om de bestraffing te bespoedigen, en als het niet voor een vastgestelde termijn was geweest, zou de bestraffing zeker over hen gekomen zijn. En zeker, het zal plotseling over hen komen terwijl zij het niet voorzien!

And they urge you to hasten the punishment. And if not for [the decree of] a specified term, punishment would have reached them. But it will surely come to them suddenly while they perceive not

• Hilali & Khan: And they ask you to hasten on the torment (for them): and had it not been for a term appointed, the torment would certainly have come to them. And surely, it will come upon them suddenly while they perceive not!
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): They ask you [O Prophet] to hasten the punishment. If it had not been for a time already set, the punishment would have come to them. But it will surely come to them by surprise when they least expect it.
