Koran 28:47 — soera Al-Qasas, vers 47

وَلَوۡلَآ أَن تُصِيبَهُم مُّصِيبَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ فَيَقُولُواْ رَبَّنَا لَوۡلَآ أَرۡسَلۡتَ إِلَيۡنَا رَسُولٗا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَٰتِكَ وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

En als (Wij) jou niet (naar het volk van Mekka hadden gestuurd) zou in dat geval een ramp hun voor (hun daden) die hun handen vooruit hebben gestuurd, treffen, zij zouden gezegd hebben: “Onze Heer! Waarom heeft U ons geen boodschapper gestuurd? Wij zouden dan Uw tekenen gevolgd hebben en zouden onder de gelovigen zijn.”

And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers

• Hilali & Khan: And if (We had) not (sent you to the people of Makkah) - in case a calamity should seize them for (the deeds) that their hands have sent forth, they would have said: "Our Lord! Why did You not send us a Messenger? We would then have followed Your Ayât (Verses of the Qur’ân) and would have been among the believers."
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): So they would not say – if struck by a calamity because of what their hands have sent forth, “Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, so we could follow Your verses and be among the believers?”
