Koran 16:63 — soera An-Nahl, vers 63

تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ

Bij Allah, Wij hebben beslist (boodschappers) gestuurd naar de volkeren die aan jou zijn voorafgegaan. Maar Shaytaan ‘verfraaide’ (en verdraaide) hun daden (dus zagen ze hun zonden als goede daden en verloochenden ze de profeten). Dus hij (Shaytaan) is hun voogd vandaag en voor hen zal er een pijnlijke bestraffing zijn.

By Allah, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is the disbelievers' ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment

• Hilali & Khan: By Allâh, We indeed sent (Messengers) to the nations before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), but Shaitân (Satan) made their deeds fair-seeming to them. So he (Satan) is their Wali (helper) today (i.e. in this world), and theirs will be a painful torment.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): By Allah, We sent [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds appealing to them. He is their ally today, and for them there will be a painful punishment.
