Coran 2:170 — sourate Al-Baqarah, verset 170

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُواْ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُواْ بَلۡ نَتَّبِعُ مَآ أَلۡفَيۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ ءَابَآءَنَآۚ أَوَلَوۡ كَانَ ءَابَآؤُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡقِلُونَ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَهۡتَدُونَ

Exhortés à se conformer à ce qu’Allah a révélé, les mécréants répondent qu’ils préfèrent suivre les traditions héritées de leurs ancêtres. Et si leurs ancêtres, ignorant tout de la religion d’Allah, s’étaient détournés du droit chemin ?

And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing." Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided

Autres traductions 2:170

• Noor International Center (fr): Et quand il leur est dit : « Suivez ce qu’Allah a fait descendre (en révélation) », ils disent : « Non, nous suivrons la tradition léguée par nos ancêtres. » Et si donc leurs ancêtres ne raisonnaient point et n’étaient pas sur la juste voie ?
• Hilali & Khan: When it is said to them: "Follow what Allâh has sent down." They say: "Nay! We shall follow what we found our fathers following." (Would they do that!) even though their fathers did not understand anything nor were they guided?
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): When it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has sent down,” they say, “Instead, we follow what we found our forefathers doing.” [Would they do so] even though their forefathers had no understanding, nor were they guided?

Tafsir (explication) de ce verset 2:170

Si on dit à ces mécréants «Suivez ce qu’Allah a révélé comme guidée et lumière», ils répondent obstinément: Nous préférons suivre les croyances et les traditions que nous ont léguées nos aïeuls. Vont-ils répéter ce que faisaient ces derniers, alors même que ceux-ci cheminaient sans guidée ni lumière, et qu’ils n’avaient pas accepté la vérité agréée par Allah?
