Coran 18:22 — sourate Al-Kahf, verset 22

سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَٰثَةٞ رَّابِعُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمۡسَةٞ سَادِسُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡ رَجۡمَۢا بِٱلۡغَيۡبِۖ وَيَقُولُونَ سَبۡعَةٞ وَثَامِنُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡۚ قُل رَّبِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِم مَّا يَعۡلَمُهُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِيلٞۗ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيهِمۡ إِلَّا مِرَآءٗ ظَٰهِرٗا وَلَا تَسۡتَفۡتِ فِيهِم مِّنۡهُمۡ أَحَدٗا

Certains soutiendront qu’ils étaient au nombre de trois, leur chien étant le quatrième, tandis que d’autres affirmeront qu’ils étaient cinq, six avec leur chien. Simples suppositions avancées sans aucune conviction. D’autres, enfin, diront qu’ils étaient sept, huit avec leur chien. Dis : « Mon Seigneur connaît mieux que quiconque leur nombre dont bien peu sont informés. » Ne t’engage donc pas à leur propos dans de longues discussions, mais contente-toi de rappeler ce qui t’a été révélé sans interroger personne à ce sujet.

They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone

• Noor International Center (fr): Ils diront : « Ils étaient trois et leur chien était leur quatrième. » Et, spéculant toujours sur leur mystère, ils diront qu’ils étaient cinq et leur chien leur sixième ; et ils diront : « Sept et leur chien leur huitième. » Dis : « Mon Seigneur Sait mieux leur nombre et il n’est que peu qui le savent. » Ne dispute donc point à leur sujet, si ce n’est selon ce qui t’a été révélé, et ne demande, en la matière, l’avis d’aucune personne.
• Hilali & Khan: (Some) say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; and (others) say they were five, the dog being the sixth, - guessing at the unseen; (yet others) say they were seven, and the dog being the eighth. Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "My Lord knows best their number; none knows them but a few." So debate not (about their number) except with the clear proof (which We have revealed to you). And consult not any of them (people of the Scripture - Jews and Christians) about (the affair of) the people of the Cave.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): Some will say, “They were three, their dog was the fourth,” while others will say, “They were five, their dog was the sixth,” – merely guessing at the unseen. And others will say, “They were seven, their dog was the eighth.” Say, “My Lord knows best their number; no one knows about them except a few. So do not argue about them except in a brief manner, nor ask anyone about them.”

Tafsir (explication) de ce verset 18:22

Certains, qui aiment polémiquer au sujet du nombre de ces jeunes gens, disent: Ils étaient trois accompagnés d’un chien. Ou encore: Ils étaient cinq accompagnés d’un chien. Seulement, ils ne font qu’avancer des suppositions sans preuves, à l’image de ceux qui disent: Ils étaient sept accompagnés d’un chien. Ô Messager, dis: Mon Seigneur connaît le mieux leur nombre ainsi que quelques personnes à qui Il donna cette connaissance. Ne polémique donc pas à propos de leur nombre ni à propos d’autre chose les concernant avec les Gens du Livre ou avec les adeptes d’autres confessions. Ne parle d’eux que d’une manière superficielle sans entrer dans les détails et en te restreignant qu’à ce qui t’a été révélé, et n’interroge aucun d’eux au sujet des détails concernant ces jeunes gens car ils ne détiennent aucune connaissance les concernant.
