Koran 3:140 — Sure Ali 'Imran, Vers 140

إِن يَمۡسَسۡكُمۡ قَرۡحٞ فَقَدۡ مَسَّ ٱلۡقَوۡمَ قَرۡحٞ مِّثۡلُهُۥۚ وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلِيَعۡلَمَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَيَتَّخِذَ مِنكُمۡ شُهَدَآءَۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Wenn euch eine Wunde zugefügt worden ist, so ist dem (ungläubigen) Volk schon eine gleiche Wunde zugefügt worden. Und diese Tage (des Kriegsglücks) lassen Wir unter den Menschen wechseln, - damit Allah diejenigen, die glauben, kennt und (damit) Er Sich von euch (Blut)zeugen nimmt. Und Allah liebt nicht die Ungerechten.

If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allah does not like the wrongdoers

• Rowwad Translation Center (de): Wenn euch eine Wunde zugefügt werden sollte, so ist dem (ungläubigen) Volk bereits eine gleiche Wunde zugefügt worden. Und jene Tage (der Kriegserfolge) lassen Wir unter den Menschen wechseln. Dies, damit Allah diejenigen, die glauben, kennt und (damit) Er Märtyrer unter euch aussucht. Und Allah liebt nicht die Ungerechten.
• Hilali & Khan: If a wound (and killing) has touched you, be sure a similar wound (and killing) has touched the others. And so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allâh may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. And Allâh likes not the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): If you have suffered a blow [at ’Uhud], they too have suffered a blow like it [at Badr]. We alternate among people these days, so that Allah may make evident the believers and may choose martyrs from among you. And Allah does not like the wrongdoers.
