Koran 2:237 — Sure Al-Baqarah, Vers 237

وَإِن طَلَّقۡتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ وَقَدۡ فَرَضۡتُمۡ لَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةٗ فَنِصۡفُ مَا فَرَضۡتُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن يَعۡفُونَ أَوۡ يَعۡفُوَاْ ٱلَّذِي بِيَدِهِۦ عُقۡدَةُ ٱلنِّكَاحِۚ وَأَن تَعۡفُوٓاْ أَقۡرَبُ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰۚ وَلَا تَنسَوُاْ ٱلۡفَضۡلَ بَيۡنَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

Aber wenn ihr euch von ihnen scheidet, bevor ihr sie berührt und euch ihnen gegenüber schon (zu einer Morgengabe) verpflichtet habt, dann (händigt) die Hälfte dessen (aus), wozu ihr euch verpflichtet habt, es sei denn, daß sie (es) erlassen oder der, in dessen Hand der Ehebund ist. Und wenn ihr (es) erlaßt, kommt das der Gottesfurcht näher. Und versäumt es nicht, gut zueinander zu sein . Was ihr tut, sieht Allah wohl.

And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have already specified for them an obligation, then [give] half of what you specified - unless they forego the right or the one in whose hand is the marriage contract foregoes it. And to forego it is nearer to righteousness. And do not forget graciousness between you. Indeed Allah, of whatever you do, is Seeing

• Rowwad Translation Center (de): Und wenn ihr euch von ihnen scheidet, bevor ihr sie berührt und euch ihnen gegenüber schon (zu einer Brautgabe) verpflichtet habt, dann (steht ihnen) die Hälfte dessen (zu), wozu ihr euch verpflichtet habt, es sei denn, dass sie (es) erlassen oder der, in dessen Hand die Eheschließung ist. Doch wenn ihr (es) erlasst, kommt das der Furcht (vor Allah) näher. Und vergesst die (entgegenkommende) Großmut untereinander nicht. Wahrlich, Allah sieht, was ihr tut.
• Hilali & Khan: And if you divorce them before you have touched (had a sexual relation with) them, and you have appointed unto them the Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), then pay half of that (Mahr), unless they (the women) agree to forego it, or he (the husband), in whose hands is the marriage tie, agrees to forego and give her full appointed Mahr. And to forego and give (her the full Mahr) is nearer to At-Taqwa (piety, righteousness). And do not forget liberality between yourselves. Truly, Allâh is All-Seer of what you do.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): If you divorce them before you have consummated the marriage, but you have already fixed their dowry, then pay half the amount agreed upon, unless the wife graciously waives it or the husband graciously pays it in full, but graciousness is closer to piety. Do not forget to be graceful to one another, for Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
