Koran 12:40 — Sure Yusuf, Vers 40

مَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءٗ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِنِ ٱلۡحُكۡمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ أَمَرَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

Ihr dient außer Ihm nur Namen, die ihr genannt habt, ihr und eure Väter, für die Allah (jedoch) keine Ermächtigung herabgesandt hat. Das Urteil ist allein Allahs. Er hat befohlen, daß ihr nur Ihm dienen sollt. Das ist die richtige Religion. Aber die meisten Menschen wissen nicht.

You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know

• Hilali & Khan: "You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged) - you and your fathers - for which Allâh has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allâh. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism); that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): You worship none besides Him except names that you and your forefathers have made up, for which Allah has not sent down any authority. The decision belongs to Allah alone; He has commanded that you should worship none except Him. This is the right religion, but most people do not know.”
