Koran 9:46 — soera At-Tawbah, vers 46

۞وَلَوۡ أَرَادُواْ ٱلۡخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّواْ لَهُۥ عُدَّةٗ وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمۡ فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ وَقِيلَ ٱقۡعُدُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ

En als zij de bedoeling hadden om uit te trekken, zouden zij daar zeker voorbereidingen voor maken, maar Allah was ertegen dat zij voort werden gestuurd, Hij liet hen dus achter en er werd gezegd: “Zitten jullie bij degenen die (thuis) zitten.”

And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain

• Hilali & Khan: And if they had intended to march out, certainly, they would have made some preparation for it; but Allâh was averse to their being sent forth, so He made them lag behind, and it was said (to them), "Sit you among those who sit (at home)."
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): If they had truly intended to march forth, they would have made necessary preparations for it. But Allah disliked their going forth, so He made them lag behind, and they were told, “Stay behind with those who are staying behind.”
