Koran 33:49 — soera Al-Ahzab, vers 49

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا نَكَحۡتُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ طَلَّقۡتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ فَمَا لَكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِنَّ مِنۡ عِدَّةٖ تَعۡتَدُّونَهَاۖ فَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ وَسَرِّحُوهُنَّ سَرَاحٗا جَمِيلٗا

O jullie die geloven! Als jullie gelovige vrouwen trouwen en hen dan van hen scheiden vóór jullie hen hebben aangeraakt dan is er geen ‘wachttijd' om rekening mee te houden voor hen. Geef hen dus een gift en laat hen gaan op een goede manier (dus scheiden binnen de Islam is zonder haat, geweld, oorlog, wraak).

O You who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, then there is not for you any waiting period to count concerning them. So provide for them and give them a gracious release

When you marry believing women, and then divorce them before you have sexual intercourse with them, no ‘Iddah [divorce prescribed period, see (V.65:4)] have you to count in respect of them. So give them a present, and set them free (i.e. divorce), in a handsome manner.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): O you who believe, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before the marriage is consummated, you have no reason to ask them to observe any waiting period, so give them compensation and release them in a pleasant manner.
