Coran 4:84 — sourate An-Nisa, verset 84

فَقَٰتِلۡ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ إِلَّا نَفۡسَكَۚ وَحَرِّضِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَكُفَّ بَأۡسَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأۡسٗا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِيلٗا

Lutte donc pour la cause d’Allah tout en exhortant les croyants au combat. Mais sache que tu n’auras à répondre que de tes actes. Allah fera ainsi cesser l’hostilité des mécréants. Allah est autrement plus puissant et Son châtiment bien plus terrifiant.

So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of Allah; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And encourage the believers [to join you] that perhaps Allah will restrain the [military] might of those who disbelieve. And Allah is greater in might and stronger in [exemplary] punishment

• Noor International Center (fr): Combats donc pour la cause d’Allah, tu n’as à assumer que ta propre responsabilité. Exhorte les croyants, peut-être Allah fera-t-Il cesser les hostilités de ceux qui ont mécru. Allah est autrement plus Fort quand Il sévit, et plus Sévère quand Il punit.
• Hilali & Khan: Then fight (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the Cause of Allâh, you are not tasked (held responsible) except for yourself, and incite the believers (to fight along with you), it may be that Allâh will restrain the evil might of the disbelievers. And Allâh is Stronger in Might and Stronger in punishing.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): So fight in the way of Allah [O Prophet]; you are accountable only for yourself. But urge the believers [to fight]; perhaps Allah will restrain the might of the disbelievers, for Allah is strongest in might and severe in punishment.

Tafsir (explication) de ce verset 4:84

Ô Messager, combats pour la cause d’Allah afin d’élever haut Sa parole; tu ne seras pas questionné au sujet d’autrui car tu ne réponds que de ta personne. Incite cependant les croyants à combattre et exhorte-les, peut-être qu’Allah repoussera par votre entremise la force des mécréants. Allah a une force plus grande et Sa punition est plus terrible.
