Coran 17:16 — sourate Al-Isra, verset 16

وَإِذَآ أَرَدۡنَآ أَن نُّهۡلِكَ قَرۡيَةً أَمَرۡنَا مُتۡرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُواْ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡهَا ٱلۡقَوۡلُ فَدَمَّرۡنَٰهَا تَدۡمِيرٗا

Et lorsque Nous décidons d’anéantir une cité, Nous ordonnons à ses habitants les plus puissants de Nous obéir, mais ils s’y livrent au péché. L’arrêt divin est alors prononcé contre ses habitants qui sont exterminés jusqu’au dernier.

And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction

• Noor International Center (fr): Quand Nous voulons faire périr une cité, Nous ordonnons à ses hommes les plus fastueux (de Nous obéir), mais ils se livrent à tous les vices. Le verdict contre elle est alors justifié et Nous la démolissons complètement.
• Hilali & Khan: And when We decide to destroy a town (population), We (first) send a definite order (to obey Allâh and be righteous) to those among them [or We (first) increase in number those of its population] who lead a life of luxury. Then, they transgress therein, and thus the word (of torment) is justified against it (them). Then We destroy it with complete destruction.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): Whenever We decide to destroy a town, We command its affluent ones [to obey Allah] but they defiantly disobey, so the punishment becomes inevitable, and We destroy it completely.

Tafsir (explication) de ce verset 17:16

Lorsque Nous voulons anéantir une cité pour son injustice, Nous ordonnons à ceux de ses habitants que l’opulence a rendus ingrats, d’obéir à Allah mais ils refusent, préférant plutôt se rebeller. Ils méritent alors l’anéantissement de plein droit et Nous les anéantirons effectivement.
