Koran 6:42 — Sure Al-An'am, Vers 42

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُم بِٱلۡبَأۡسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

Wir haben ja schon zu Gemeinschaften vor dir (Gesandte) gesandt und über sie Not und Leid kommen lassen, auf daß sie unterwürfig flehen mögen.

And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us]

• Rowwad Translation Center (en): We sent messengers to nations before you and seized them with poverty and hardship, so that they may humble themselves.
