Koran 3:167 — Sure Ali 'Imran, Vers 167

وَلِيَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُواْۚ وَقِيلَ لَهُمۡ تَعَالَوۡاْ قَٰتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدۡفَعُواْۖ قَالُواْ لَوۡ نَعۡلَمُ قِتَالٗا لَّٱتَّبَعۡنَٰكُمۡۗ هُمۡ لِلۡكُفۡرِ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَقۡرَبُ مِنۡهُمۡ لِلۡإِيمَٰنِۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيۡسَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يَكۡتُمُونَ

und damit Er diejenigen kennt, die heucheln, zu denen gesagt wurde: „Kommt her und kämpft auf Allahs Weg oder wehrt ab, worauf sie sagten: „Wenn wir zu kämpfen wüßten, würden wir euch wahrlich folgen. Sie waren an jenem Tag dem Unglauben näher als dem Glauben. Sie sagen mit ihren Mündern, was nicht in ihren Herzen ist. Doch Allah weiß sehr wohl, was sie verbergen.

And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allah or [at least] defend." They said, "If we had known [there would be] fighting, we would have followed you." They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah is most Knowing of what they conceal

• Rowwad Translation Center (de): und damit Er diejenigen kennt (und sieht), die heucheln, zu denen gesagt wurde: „Kommt her und kämpft auf dem Weg Allahs oder wehrt ab.“ Sie sagten: „Wenn wir wüssten, dass es einen Kampf gibt, würden wir euch gewiss (auch) folgen.“ Sie waren an jenem Tag dem Unglauben näher als dem Glauben. Sie sagten mit ihren Mündern, was nicht in ihren Herzen ist. Und Allah weiß besser, was sie verbergen.
• Hilali & Khan: And that He might test the hypocrites, it was said to them: "Come, fight in the Way of Allâh or (at least) defend yourselves." They said: "Had we known that fighting will take place, we would certainly have followed you." They were that day, nearer to disbelief than to Faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allâh has full knowledge of what they conceal.
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): and in order to make known those who are hypocrites. They were told, “Come forward, fight in the way of Allah or at least defend.” They said, “If we had known there was fighting, we would have certainly followed you.” That day they were nearer to disbelief than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts, but Allah is All-Knowing of what they conceal.
