Koran 3:156 — Sure Ali 'Imran, Vers 156

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَكُونُواْ كَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَقَالُواْ لِإِخۡوَٰنِهِمۡ إِذَا ضَرَبُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَوۡ كَانُواْ غُزّٗى لَّوۡ كَانُواْ عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُواْ وَمَا قُتِلُواْ لِيَجۡعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ حَسۡرَةٗ فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٞ

O die ihr glaubt, seid nicht wie diejenigen, die ungläubig sind und von ihren Brüdern, wenn sie im Lande umhergereist sind oder sich auf einem Kriegszug befunden haben, sagen: „Wenn sie bei uns geblieben wären, wären sie nicht gestorben und nicht getötet worden, damit Allah dies zu einer gramvollen Reue in ihren Herzen mache. Allah macht lebendig und läßt sterben. Und was ihr tut, sieht Allah wohl.

O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do

• Rowwad Translation Center (de): O die ihr glaubt, seid nicht wie diejenigen, die ungläubig waren und zu ihren Brüdern sagten, wenn sie im Lande umhergereist sind oder sich auf einem Kriegszug befunden haben: „Wären sie bei uns gewesen, wären sie nicht gestorben und nicht getötet worden.“ Dies, damit Allah das zu einem Kummer in ihren Herzen mache. Und Allah macht lebendig und lässt sterben, und Allah ist sehend über das, was ihr tut.
• Hilali & Khan: O you who believe! Be not like those who disbelieve (hypocrites) and who say to their brethren when they travel through the earth or go out to fight: "If they had stayed with us, they would not have died or been killed," so that Allâh may make it a cause of regret in their hearts. It is Allâh that gives life and causes death. And Allâh is All-Seer of what you do.
