Koran 13:14 — Sure Ar-Ra'd, Vers 14

لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةُ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسۡتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَيۡءٍ إِلَّا كَبَٰسِطِ كَفَّيۡهِ إِلَى ٱلۡمَآءِ لِيَبۡلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَٰلِغِهِۦۚ وَمَا دُعَآءُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَٰلٖ

Ihm gebührt die wahre Anrufung. Diejenigen, die sie außer Ihm anrufen, erhören sie in nichts. Sie sind nur wie einer, der seine Hände nach Wasser ausstreckt, damit es seinen Mund erreiche, aber es erreicht ihn nicht. Aber das Bittgebet der Ungläubigen geht nur ins Leere.

To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e. futility]

• Rowwad Translation Center (de): Ihm (alleine) gebührt der Aufruf zur Wahrheit. Diejenigen aber, die sie außer Ihm anrufen, erhören sie in nichts. Es ist nur wie mit einem, der seine Hände nach Wasser ausstreckt, damit es seinen Mund erreicht, aber es erreicht ihn nicht. Und das Rufen (und Bittgebet) der Ungläubigen geht gewiss nur in die Irre.
• Hilali & Khan: For Him (Allah, Alone) is the Word of Truth (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke, answer them no more than one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not; and the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use).
• Rowwad Translation Center (en): To Him alone should all supplication be addressed. But those whom they supplicate besides Him do not respond to them in any way, except like one who stretches out his hands for water to reach his mouth, but it will never reach it. The supplication of the disbelievers is all in vain.
